As long as F King Alexander and Alleva are in charge LSU will not win another National Championship.

Miles meets all of their goals for the program.

I certainly get the feeling Alleva isn't enamored with Miles and would like to get him out

Maybe this will encourage people to vote for legislators that will actually try to help them. But blaming F King for this is ridiculous. He's the President. He shouldn't be fired for vetoing us firing the football coach.

He should be blamed because you are exactly what he wants. He wants everyone pissed off that LSU couldn't get rid of Miles because of budget issues. The big money influences the legislature to give him back his funding from the state in order to get their control of LSU Sports back.

It's all about power, and F. King just flexed his big dick all over the big money sports donors. It's a political calculation to use sports to get his way. I have to hand it to him, its brilliant, but he fricked up the PR aspect.

"Not ready to spend $15-25M" hahaha what an excuse. It would have been majority if not all private money....

Perception is reality in the political realm. How many in Louisiana KNOW how the coaches salaries are paid? Most would likely tell you the school pays them, and no amount of education or information sharing would change it.

I don't like liberal academics (being a quasi-academic, myself) but the blind squirrel found its nut. He would have been shot down by the legislature for ANY funding or support had this gone through, in my estimation. He's got more on his plate than athletics.

Well that confirms that this jackass and his budget battles are to blame.
It's really more about the perception of the money matters.

The LSU Board of Supervisors would have to remove him - which is unlikely, considering that they're the morons that hired him just a few years ago.

You don't quite understand how this works. In his Marxist/Socialist world, there is no private money. It all belongs to him, and he can do whatever he wants to with it.

Alleva and Alexander should stop by the LSU business school and learn a thing or two. It has been amateur hour on the PR front.

I think some boosters, just like many on the Rant, completely overreacted after the Alabama game. The 7-0 start was fool's gold and everyone not wearing purple and gold glasses knew it. LSU definitely could have done things different at Bama, but that game was always going to be tough to win.

Still, the powers that be looked for all the world that they had executed a coup that would bring LSU a new HC who many would have trouble arguing wouldn't be better than the current HC. It almost worked. At some point the cost of doing business just got to high. I can understand that from a business perspective.

LSU is full of shite about the "dire straits" they are in financially. I didn't always agree with Jindal, but LSU and higher education as a whole in this state are models of inefficiency. It was beyond time for alot of the fat to be trimmed at LSU. It's hard to cut back on spending when you're so used to pissing away other people's money (i.e. the taxpayers) LSU is fine. Alexander just didn't want to negate his "woe is me" argument by allowing the school to spend millions on essentially one personnel change.

Alexander is a jackass.

Does this mean we are keeping Miles until 2020, for budgetary issues??

agreed, unfortunately state legislatures' perception is more important than the facts about where the money comes from when making funding decisions regarding LSU

great call by King Alexander

not to mention Les should have never been let go of anyways, but that's another thread

This was a hostage situation. Our University president came down on the side of keeping academics safe. Good for him. Only one man deserves our scorn in this situation, and it wasn't Alexander.

So what was his justification for allowing all of the media to attack the LSU brand for two weeks if this was known all along? Why not nip this in the bud right away?

Why won't anyone ask this guy this simple question? This is the biggest travesty in the entire situation.

Alexander makes a good point about the public perception when lobbying for more state funding for the university after it buys out a contract for 15 million. The state legislatures that vote on the issues regarding LSU funding can be biased knowing the coach just got paid $15 mil

There is no point...there is one simple question, how much money did LSU itself save as a result of not canning Miles? Answer: ZERO

How much money would LSU itself have spent to can Miles? Answer: ZERO

How much money does LSU stand to lose as a result of pissing off boosters? Answer: Millions

What's the point of having donors with deep pockets if the system president and state politics are going to dictate the fate of the football program? Forget Miles and Alleva - I don't think LSU football can prosper with Alexander running the university.

This whole thread should be whacked for all of your stupidity. The public at large also refers to your state legislature that don't care where you (the university) got the money just that you have major problems in the budget and have chosen to spent 15 to 25 million with no guarantee to improve the situation in fact may make it worse.
