Go take a look at the skylines of Rome and Florence.
Olmsted Group designed it to be an Italian Renaissance campus.
I understand the observatory and other features are Italian but with every rook spanish tile it is more incandescent of Spanish architecture than pure Italian renaissance.

Original campus architecture was based on the Renaissance domestic style of northern Italy (tan stucco walls, red tile roofs), with buildings that house most of the classrooms and administrative offices grouped around a double quadrangle and connected by colonnaded passageways.

History books also claim Chris Columbus found North American when we all know it was "found" way before his time.
Im not Architectural History guy but the few "Northern Italian homes" i have found look exactly like typical Spanish Colonial.

Not that long ago it was a total shithole. Thank you, Shaq.

Much worse an architectural monstrosity than the two examples listed above (union or PMAC).
Lockett is an abomination, as well.
The biggest issue I have with Middleton is that it destroyed the Quadrangle.

My wish list for the PMAC:
1. Revamp the fixed seating to give enough leg room.
2. New scoreboard/videoboard
3. Replace ramp setup outside with stairs or escalators inside the concourse (not sure about the specifics on this one)
4. Student entrance should be on the ground level

Given how proactive LSU has been in adding suites to most of it's most popular facilities
But your thread is based on the premise that no one likes the PMAC, so why would it be upgraded with the rest of the "popular" facilities?
The inside is nice, but Alleva screwed the hard core student fans who usually showed up in respectable numbers when he moved the student section behind the basket.

What does this even mean???
...Especially on a campus dominated by Italian Renaissance architecture.
"Outdated"?
Please explain this.
Outdated in the same sense as the cookie-cutter dual-purpose stadiums of the late 60's-70's. i.e. Riverfront Stadium; Jack Murphy Stadium; Three Rivers Stadium, Busch Stadium II, etc. Those stadiums were utilitarian in nature and had no real aesthetically pleasing aspects to them. The PMAC is much the same. No one is designing or building stadiums like that anymore. There has been a complete shift in the opposite direction. It is an outdated design concept.

I forgot about the doors from the arena to the concourse...why are they there?

But The ramps need to go and somehow mirror the stairs on the other side with something fancy in the middle.

I hate them. Get a drink and a hotdog and you're playing concessions Olympics getting back to your seat.

This is from an LSU fan and USL (UL Lafayette) grad. The post of Dukes Cameron F/H says it all. It's not the arena; it’s the product on the court. When LSU BB is good and the place is packed, the place rocks and provides awesome home court advantage. The seating at court level is very close to the action and that's major for H/C advantage.
I remember how excited I was when Lafayette decided to build the Cajun Dome in the mid 80's after the BB team had such great teams from the late 60's up thru the early 1980's. What I wouldn't give to experience the atmosphere of old Blackham Coliseum with the wooden bench seats and packed with 9K+ fans playing the likes of LA Tech with Karl Malone or a Billy Tubbs coached Lamar team. The Cajun Dome absolutely sucks. The seating is so far away from the court, even with a decent crowd, it's never loud. So be careful what you wish for.
The PMAC is fine. Only thing I agree with is upkeep and maybe other amenities such as modern scoreboard. Remember the “Pit” in NM? Holds 17K+ and all wooden bench seats, but the cool/nostalgia factor is awesome.
The 1986 NCAA regionals at the PMAC with the double overtime win over Perdue followed by the buzzer beater over Memphis State. Now that was loud. So let’s concentrate on upgrading the team and filling the seats before we even begin to gripe about the facility.

Why I want it replaced:
1. It is an oval seating arangement
2. We are starting to fall behind in the the arena arms race
3. no freaking legroom
4. it is ugly as shite
5. It has no place for premium seats
6. It is too large
It is a great venue when it is packed, but with better tv and the recent subpar level of the program it has regressed. I would love to have an arena like Pitt's or Mizzou's.

This has been posted 10 times, but does anyone actually think this would get fixed in a new arena? Or is that why people are so obsessed with suites?
Posted on 1/22/15 at 12:25 pm to tom
They revamped the entire arena 10 years ago or so and put in new seats and they made the leg room even worse! That's my only issues with the PMAC. As a season ticket holder and huge basketball supporter I want to have packed houses every game but man does it get cramped in there.

Theoritcally if they reduced the # of seats in a new arena they could have more room/seat but they probably won't. I doubt I ever pay for a suite at any sporting event.

quote:THANK YOU. The media section can really kill off some of the vibe. Don't move it, get rid of it. Those goofballs are just doing shite on twitter anyways. Sit in the upper decks and use your phones you damn hippies.
Other than that, it's the possiblity of moving the media section and making the Student section the entire behind the basket. Would be much better.

Middleton needs to be torn down to open the quad back up.
Middleton and Kirby Smith are the two biggest detractors from the embiance of LSU at present. Kirby is coming down in the next couple years, but I have a feeling that Middleton will collapse and crumble to dust long before LSU ever decides to tear it down and replace it. Go to other major state schools like Kentucky, Ohio State, Arizona State, Alabama, ect. Look at their libraries compared to ours. Middleton is an absolute travesty. When I wanted a book at LSU, I generally had to go to a BR Library. EBRPLS is so vastly superior, it's not even funny.
