Explain the hate for the PMAC, because I don't get it...

it's a fine facility IMO, considering when it was built, and the situation LSU basketball was in at the time.
I refer you to the latest troll thread by a mouth-breather...
Auburn Arena makes the PMAC look like the sad pad
...this was my reply:
[ This thread is sad. The PMAC is a fine facility, maybe obsolescent, but certainly not obsolete.
It's home to one of the finest practice facilities for both men and women in the country:
The PMAC itself is absolutely immaculate on the outside...
...and on the inside:
...and it features some of the better premium lounge areas for fans to enjoy before and during basketball home games...
...the one thing the PMAC lacks, is suites. It was designed and built at a time when suites and most forms of premium seating were rare in college basketball.
Given how proactive LSU has been in adding suites to most of it's most popular facilities...Football, Baseball, Softball and Tennis facilities all feature or will feature suites...this issue is due to be addressed.
]
For reference sake:
Auburn Arena
Capacity 9,121 13,970-square foot practice facility and weight room.
PETE MARAVICH ASSEMBLY CENTER
Capacity 13,215 60,060 square feet practice facility with Media Room, Men's and Women's Basketball Locker Rooms and Team Lounges, Training Room, Laundry Facility, Coach's Locker Room and storage areas.
So basically, our arena is bigger, and with a bigger and better practice facility.
What am I missing?

And say what you will about the PMAC, but at least it doesn't have seats like this:
Amazing what $92 million will get you, right?

Pretty bad sightlines. Seats too far from the court, no suites. Awful legroom for any of the fixed seating. Terrible futuristic 70's design that doesn't fit with the rest of campus.

You just described more than half of the basketball arenas in the SEC, and maybe the country.
I'm actually with you, we could do better. My point is, what we have is already better than a lot of arenas that were built newer.
And our basketball practice facility is second to none.

Practice facility is nice but does nothing for the fan experience.
And just because the PMAC is like many of the other SEC arenas doesn't exclude it from sucking.

It's important both for recruiting and player development.

The OP referenced a thread comparing Auburn's Arena to the PMAC. I'm just pointing out how wrong that particular comparison is.
I've already said it's time to address the basketball arena problem, particularly since it doesn't have much in the way of premium seating, which is the wave of the future in athletic marketing.
Again, the PMAC shouldn't be judged against more modern arenas, it's not a fair comparison. Although it comes out just fine compared to Auburn,s.

I've sat in the nosebleed of Rupp, and it's worse than the upper deck of the PMAC, though slightly closer to the court.
Outside of the flying saucer exterior, some of the ceiling tile starting to wet/warp again, and shoebox bathrooms, the revamped PMAC is underrated imho.
Fla's O'Connell, is generic, has two different shade of blue seats upper and lower, is a maze of ugly hand rails, and the chlorine smell from downstairs is annoying.
I do like Thompson-Boling's Redux
As nice as Auburn's is, it's flawed, it's smallish making it feel like a JuCo powerhouse court.
Unlike Foots and Bases, where the arenas can have totally different vibes, most Hoops arenas are somewhat homogeneous in shape, appearance(especially when filled), and sizes.
I have a feeling LSU's next hoops arena will become TAF's next great project in the coming decade or so. LSU Hoops may be playing the River Center for two seasons while a teardown/rebuild happens. And surprisingly if done right for the future decades, will actually seat another 3 to 5K, even if the demand not yet there.

See, this is what I was looking for.
The problem with the PMAC is that while it is not as nice as other arenas, it's almost too nice to consider abandoning it. Myself, I feel that building an entirely new arena in an entirely new location is the solution. And as other schools have done with their older basketball facilities, re-purpose the PMAC as the home of volleyball and gymnastics.
Perhaps this is the plan...I recall that LSU volleyball was supposed to get a new practice facility built onto the side of the new gymnastic practice facility currently being constructed.
That changed all of a sudden, although it just might be a case of changing direction due to adding sand volleyball as a sport, and wanting to design a practice facility that would serve both volleyball and sand volleyball equally.

Other than the exterior being hideous, I don't have much of a problem with it knowing what other schools have.
I would like to see it renovated and rebuilt to add suites and, ideally, an exterior more appropriate for the LSU campus. I love the location.
The river center would suffice for one or two seasons for the construction.
The Memphis Tigers play in the beautiful FedEx Forum. That's a sweet NBA-grade arena. I think we can use that as a model on how to improve the PMAC if we ever needed to.

Agreed. PMAC is a perfectly fine arena. In fact better than many newer ones around. The O'Conell center in Gainesville is one of the worst ones.

no
Have you seen the crumbling paint that is scabbing off the roof?

I went to a game at U Cincinnati last weekend and was suprosed how much better it was. Great sight lines throughout. Two story stadium club and luxury boxes.

At this point in time, I have no problem with the PMAC.
I enjoy my seats.
I do understand two things it lacks that eventually must be addressed, premium seating and higher seats being closer to the court.
If and when LSU gets a new basketball arena, I'd like to see something that fits better architecturally with the rest of campus.

From my experience, people who hate any arena or stadium are people who are too fat to fit comfortably in the arena's seats and too boring to enjoy the game itself.
I love everything about the PMAC.

The PMACs architecture is what kills it. It is in beautiful shape outside and in. I notice the upkeep each time I walk up to it. I agree with OP to the point that I actually posted the same thread last year. The pmac compares VERY favorably to other venues around the country, and it is by far the nicest one I've been to in the sec. And it's not even close. The sec has some shitholes. Admittedly I haven't been to all of em though.

It's old and outdated.... Needs a major overhaul.
