And our basketball practice facility is second to none.
This is why I believe that the PMAC is a great place. I had the pleasure of working with the womens team while in school and was awed when they first finished the practice facility and allowed us to start practice there.
Yes, the actual arena is older than most but it has character, it has size, it has the atmosphere....the only thing that is missing IMO is that we cannot fill it...our fans dont come out like i feel like they should.
Yes, LSU basketball hasnt given us much to get excited about, but that is changing right in front of us. The next few years with Johnny Jones should be fun to watch and I bet the atmosphere of the PMAC changes and peoples opinions of the place will change as well.

the outside ramps should be torn down and stairs added. there really is no need for them. the interior is not bad at all compared to most places. however its pretty pathetic that there is only one concession stand on the lower level. getting something to drink during the game is a major pain and I still can't figure out why lsu doesn't have guys walking around selling cokes or at least have some rolling carts.

Other than this, I like it. Seems like that shouldn't be too hard a fix, but nobody will do it.

I would like to see it renovated and rebuilt to add suites
I would love to see this too, but wouldnt it be more of a pain to add suites to the existing arena rather than just building a new one equipped with suites?

Where is the club in those pics at the PMAC? I'm not able to go to many games at all obviously. Would love to check that out next time.

O-Dome did it.

Suites would offer nothing to enhance the experience of the average fan.
The only thing it would do is increase some revenue. Honestly, I'm not even sure LSU could sell basketball suites. If I had the money, I wouldn't buy one. And I love LSU sports.
There's nothing wrong with the PMAC that a little interior updating couldn't immediately fix. Like earlier posters have said... new scoreboards and video and a few fixes to enhance the crowd experience... boom. Done.
If I had sole command of re-doing the interior and unlimited budget, I would re-do the seating. Might even have less seats. Cupholders, a little more wiggle room and better sight lines for everybody.
It's fine as is, though. The only reason Auburn is spouting off is to try to alleviate their buyer's remorse for a $92 million arena that's really not that great.

it is amazing to me how people demand so much yet the arena is always empty on game nights.
people say "no suites!!!"
how many of these fricktards would buy a suite?
This guy knows what hes talking about.

I agree. The idea of suites in a college basketball arena is rather lame to me.

the rows of seats are way too close for tall people like me. i either have to spread my legs or sit very awkwardly and I'm only 6'3.

They are in the second floor of the practice facility. If you walk in the doors right behind the Shaq statue and up the stairs you will see the area in those pictures.

I'm sure if there was a demand and/or the AD had reason to believe we'd profit from adding suites in the PMAC, we'd have them by now. LSU bball just isn't a hot ticket at the moment and really hasn't been since the early 90's on account of our inability to put together a consistent, year-in year-out winner.
With wins will come more fans, with more fans will come demand for better amenities, suites, etc. Can't put the cart before the horse.

White_mj, is that open to the public before games?
Posted on 1/22/15 at 9:34 am to Golfer
The biggest complaint about the PMAC when it was being constructed was the architectural design. LSU build two monstrosities that have nothing in common with the rest of the campus, the PMAC and the Student Union. And now we have three having just added the futuristic Alex Box Version Two.
I was a season ticket holder at LSUBB for about 10 years and enjoyed going to the PMAC. The only fault I remember operationally was the lack of practice facilities and the horrible concessions.....but the concessions problem is systemic at all LSU events.

Im not 100% sure on this.....i want to say its for people who are in the 6th man club/L-Club, but im sure if you walk in there like you belong no one would tell you otherwise.....
Also, might help if you have a TAF card on you haha

I think the fact that people (especially, but not exclusively the students) don't show up for the games has more to do with that than the seat placement. The seats aren't THAT far from the court
The design and exterior are outdated, no question. The inside reminds me of a nicer and bigger "Tad Pad" (though that isn't necessarily a good thing). Nonetheless, the arena is fine. The seats are relatively comfortable even though the legroom can be fairly tight even for just an average size person (I'm 6'0"). They have done a nice job of upgrading the concourse a bit, and there really isn't a "bad" seat in the place. I've sat all the way at the top and at ground level. You can see all of the necessary action. The only real improvements I think they could feasibly make is to obviously repair the ceiling, and maybe drop a new scoreboard in with better graphics and big screen. Otherwise, add a national powerhouse team and the PMAC is just as tough to play as any other arena

Am I the only person who actually sort of appreciates the exterior architectural aesthetic of the PMAC?

Probably. I don't care for it one bit. Sticks out like a sore thumb.
Really wish it would have been vaguely modeled after the Cow Palace. Such a cool old building.

I have not but have to say I do like the exterior of it.
Premium seating is a huge revenue stream & we currently subsidize our basketball program through our football program which isn't anything to be proud of. If there's demand, I say do it. Our basketball program should be able to support itself, like the vast majority of the other P5 programs
Alleva knows this & has stated mutiple times that we're basically maxed out (r/e profit maximization) in every other sport other than basketball. Huge upside
I'd personally like us to remodel Parker Colesium & build a parking garage on that surface commuter parking lot. However I would miss the location of the P-Mac
Eta: I think we all agree that first we need to start selling out what we have now
