sorry, but its the truth. Baton Rouge wins the award for gameday atmosphere, but has one of the worst college bar scenes for a major university that I have ever seen

its pretty bad. its just so fricking trashy when compared to the bars that surround Ole Miss, Alabama etc... I think they should aspire to be more like The Bulldog instead of fricking Reggies.

there is a need for places like Reggie's, there just needs to be better alternatives out there. Most of LSU's bars are too far away too. WHen stste street went to shite, so did having nice bars walkable to on campus living. that goes a long way in determining a college's bar scene IMO

NGT and Slinkys need new owners who will do something with them instead of just nailing plywood and shite to beams.

You guys should try to eat dinner at the Swamp if you can get in. Its off of University Blvd. right across from the school.

Lived here for 32 years. Some good restaurants, but nothing close to campus is decent if you are over 25. And nothing like BR or NOLA or Lafayette.

Be very very careful drinking outside. Open container law is taken seriously.

Only really good food is at my house.

I cannot overstate this. Their fans are white trash a-holes. Hate to stereotype but I almost came unglued on some guy wearing (I sh*t you not) a white wife beater, white washed jean shorts, white keds and gold chains, earings, etc. and his Katrina jokes as we walked to the stadium. We lost and went to the Swamp (the bar) that night and got a "FEMA" welcome chant. And we had UF fans with us for God's sake. I understand good-natured ribbing, but this was disgusting to say the least. I'm sure they have nice fans. We just didn't encounter any in the 48 hours we were there.

I'm from Florida - before I enrolled in LSU. I LOVE the Noles vs Gator games. (Go noles in this case) Gator fans are much like we are except they tend to me more pushy and can be vveerrryyy aggressive. I'll be going to the game aswell. IMO if you wanna drink just fill a McD's cup/flask/something hidden with jack and sip the whole day. Cops there are worse than LSU PD when it comes to stupidity with small laws. Hopefully I can find a friendly tailgate, if not, I'll have a good adventure in the swamp.

Great atmosphere in the stadium. A lot like Tiger Stadium.

I have always kind of liked the Grog House, just across the street from the stadium. There are a couple of other places along that little strip that are also pretty cool, but I don't remember the names.

info about tailgating

I usually "tailgate" in a bar near the stadium. Grog House is my favorite in Gainesville. I have been to a few tailgate parties there, and the most noticeable thing is that you have to be careful with your drink or the cops will give you shite. If I recall from the last time this was an issue when I was present, the rule was that you would be left alone if your drink was in an opaque cup, but a clear plastic cup would get you busted. Other than that, it's pretty much a normal tailgating scene.

FYI, last time I was there was 2008, and I just stayed in the bar the whole time before the game. The last time before that, and when I encountered the drinking rules, was in 2000. Good news was that, at least as of 2008, you could still smoke in the bar.

Plenty of bars next to stadium. Had plenty of offers to tailgate with Gator fans. They had plenty of beer and food.

Went there once several years ago. We just found a house that was charging for parking on their lawn about 3 blocks west of the stadium. No problems tailgaiting. Saw lots of LSU fans walking around. The gator fans I met were great, I was concerned about the rumors I heard about going there. So my experience was positive.

It really is. You have no main strip or section of bars. You just have little "pockets" of bars littered here and there throughout LSU's massive, sprawling campus (ex: Northgate area, Tigerland area, Bogies/Walk On/Shadys/Mellow area). Now, include the Perkins overpass area, The Bulldog/Uncle Earls area, and downtown Baton Rouge which are all viable drinking options for college students. It's poor layout essentially encourages drinking and driving (due to Baton Rouge's poor public transit and lack of taxi cabs). It really is a mess and I haven't encountered anything remotely like it while visiting other major state universities.

There is a place a couple of exits down from the swamp, you will see the billboard signs saying WE BARE ALL, it's called cafe risque. If you like eating your food with a bunch of beautiful NAKED ladies walking around, this place is for you.
