Got my tickets today (Sec. 326) and can't wait. I am expecting their fans to be major assholes given what I experienced at the baseball series this past year. They are your typical "cool when they are winning, but bitter as frick when they are losing" fans. The UF fans I meet in Jax are pretentious and fake. They really look down their noses at LSU and its fans. It can be quite funny. I found a good place to park/tailgate across from the stadium in those little neighborhoods. We'll be in there.

And if they beat Tennesseee, they'll likely be in the Top 15, so their levels of butthurtedness will be very high if we beat them. It'll be "y'all cheated, y'all aren't classy, your running backs were super mean, we are a better school, blah bla blah".

I went a couple of years ago and was absolutely miserable. All of the fans I ran into were a-holes. We got spanked, and I tried to go out and have a good time after but it was a lost cause. After LSU kicks their arse rub it in their face for me.

Definitely put your drink in a cup. They have stupid rules about you cant be on the sidewalk with a beer, but you can be in the grass. The cops will search out opposing fans who don't know the rules and give them tickets. It's a really terrible way to treat guests in your town. But yeah, Gainsville was miserable for me, I hope you have a better time.

Going to Gainesville for the first time this year with a group buddies (all students here at LSU). I knew Florida had a reputation for having bad fans but I didn't know they were that bad. Oh well, here's to hoping we kick their a$$

Also, if driving, keep in mind that there are speed traps all over on your way into Gainesville, especially if you're coming in from Jax or St. Aug. The speed limit literally changes every two blocks.

I learned my lesson about the cops when I was there in 04, got stopped twice day of and day after the game. The day of I was alleged to have been going too slow (lost as frick), day after I was going 3 mph over the limit where the sign had just changed. I learned my lesson after that and took the lsu flags down. Fortunately, I only received one ticket.

Yeah, and the roads (from Jax at least) go from 60 to 45 to 25 as you get to the towns. Be aware.

Anyone have advice on parking. I'm making my first trip there. Are there random surface lots you can park in assuming I get there say 6 hours before kickoff?

Florida is the absolute worst and I have been everywhere but Vandy and Kentucky. The fans are just a different breed down there. Tailgating is a joke. First timers will notice this immediatly when walking around their campus. I have had a blast at every SEC roadtrip except Florida. This sentiment is shared at almost all the other SEC schools as well. Good stadium, garbage tailgating and fans.

I went in 2010 and was one of the best SEC experiences for me. The tailgating is very laid back, and I could see why a lot of people don't like it, but the game experience was amazing. Florida reminds me of LSU in the way the crowd is during the games

Gainesville is a ginormous trailer park. We stopped there on the way to Disney World when I was in grade school (weather was frightful and my Dad was done driving for the day)... My family had just moved to Louisiana from Virginia - so this was before I had any idea what "SEC" or "LSU" even meant, more or less (hadn't put the 2 & 2 together with UF yet).

Years later - I asked my folks if Gainesville was as big a dump as I had remembered it to be. "Absolutely" they said.

Don't walk around with a cup or a beer. They are real dicks about open container.

I assume the OP is looking college bars, just letting him know there is no Tigerland there. I like both of those places but they are restaurants that double as bars during game weekends. And the prices reflect that.
wrong again. Gator City is a bar every night of the week. It is split up into 3 rooms, one of which serves food during the day but shifts into a bar at night, then there is a room in the back with pool tables and arcade games, then a dance room in the front (called XS). I can assure you I have been out in Gainseville more times than you have, and they have many more college bar options then Baton Rouge offers.
