i find it difficult to believe that a football game attracting 100,000+ people to the area will be played on saturday while the area emergency and state workers are in disaster response mode.

Agreed... I feel bad for the whole state... IF they find a way to play it fine... But will 80,000 people be able to even get to the stadium...........

you're missing the point though. police are going to be pulled away from policing the city during curfew to work a football game?

like what was posted, louisianians have a shite load of experience with hurricanes and football. it may not be in the cards for a columbia game this weekend, despite how dry the field will be.

I'm not missing the point. You keep applying a much worse situation (a hurricane) to our situation.

They could get to the stadium right now if they wanted to.

you're still not seeing the big picture. the state is utilizing resources for disaster relief. I doubt a football game where 100k+ people show up is going to happen in that area. maybe i'm wrong but I just don't see it happening.

Do you know if there is any flooding in the area of 240 E Exchange Blvd? This is the address of the hotel we booked (Baymont Inn and Suites). Really hope the game goes on in Columbia as scheduled..

I mean you have fans coming from all over the state right???? If no more rain falls the rest of the week will the water go down by Friday in Charleston?????

Hope you are right.

We all know how it feels to lose a game when you are in a bad situation. Its also uplifting for the people going through a hard time to have something to do that takes their mind off of what they are going through.

I think some LSU fans are just hoping to get an extra home game or some advantage. But I don't want that at the expense of people that are hurting.

So part of the city (Forest Acres), has a bunch of these little dammed lakes.

Map

Where most of the dramatic pictures came from yesterday was from these little dams failing in this area. You can follow the creek below these lakes and that is where the worst of the flooding has been. Another one is failing now.

Fortunately, none of these little creeks go by the stadium.

You should be fine right there. That is about five minutes down the road from where the really bad flooding was yesterday, but that area should not have been affected. You could always give the hotel a call and they'd be able to tell you.

At least nine people have died from the floods in South Carolina since the rain began to fall days ago, Gov. Nikki Haley said during a Monday press conference. During the press briefing, Gov. Haley also said:

40,000 residents are without water and 26,000 remain without power
More than 150 water rescues have been performed
1,300 National Guardsmen are on duty and have performed 25 aerial rescues so far
550 roads and bridges are closed, and more are expected to close as floodwaters move toward the sea
Evacuations should be expected in parts of the Lowcountry as floodwaters move downstream

"Catastrophic flooding continues," wrote the National Weather Service's Charleston office in a Monday morning forecast discussion. Making matters worse, a wind advisory has been issued for some parts of the Palmetto State, and with all this saturated ground, there's a big fear that trees will blow over, adding another threat for pedestrians and drivers.

This is not good news at all because this is just upstream from the Stadium.

I swear to God that I am seeing the big picture and completely understand where you are coming from. However, there is a ton of law enforcement in this state that can handle one football game. I truly believe that Columbia really can handle it.

Separate from your point, Williams Brice Stadium isn't even in a FEMA Flood Zone.

Ask the people who have lost their homes if they would be in favor of hosting the game first?

What does that have to do with anything? This is like a "won't someone think of the children" type post.

Yeah, if you saw these creeks at normal gauge, then you'd know what I mean by "little". Poor choice of words on my part.

But they really don't go by the stadium.

that's not really the point. post disaster relief... getting trees off of roads and dealing with the water is going to be the priority this week.

but hey, maybe a football game is played saturday morning. we'll just have to wait and see.
