He can if he wants, but he needs the BOS approval to do this. When it comes to high profile stuff like this, he NEEDS the BOS approval.

LSU can afford the buyout if it really wants to. That's just another feeble excuse for keeping a good ole boy coach who is going to decimate the program.

How many millions are you going to contribute?

Just in case you didn't know, the LSU athletic departmant funds programs other than football. Which would you have them cut back or eliminate?

Yep. At today's pace, LSU stands to lose a buttload more than $12M if it doesnt derail this freight train of suck.

Yeah but that's invisible in a way. No one really sees that, even if they see half empty stadiums for the next three years. There's no figure attached to it for everyone to see. The monetary losses are also theoretical, no one knows exactly how much we could lose from loss of merchandise, ticket sales, bowls.

The $12m buyout, everyone can see that because we repeat it all of the time. This is about perception more than anything else. They don't want to be seen paying two coaches to sit at home and another to coach. That's all.

I agree with Fire Alleva now, hire football knowledgeable AD, then let him conduct a real search and hire a real head coach after this season.

“ The buyout is inexcusable”

LSU had to suffer our worst defeat in 15 years before he could come to that conclusion??

A few of us here said the exact same thing when the buyout was exposed. Like Coach O wouldn’t have excepted the job if we had offered him only a 5,000,000 by out?

So many things were wrong about this whole hire that it would be laughable if it wasn’t so sad for LSU.

That's the thing that bugs me the most. It's one thing to hire the guy in the first place, but then Alleva throws the fricking bank at him for no reason. Odom at Mizzou is making like 800k and his buyout is like 1mil IIRC. That's how it's done when you don't have a proven commodity. They pay Alleva entirely too much money for him to be this much of a fricking moron.

Alleva really believed he was hiring an actual head coach? Is that even possible that he is so fn retarded he believed Zero was going to deliver? Hell, even if thats the case you low ball him and then throw the bank at him after he succeeds. Maybe he thought of he gave him a big contract that everyone else would believe he was a real prize? But then the BOS had to sign off. I can't understand it. It makes no sense.

we cant fire O due to the buyout

That is complete nonsense. LSU has the funds to absolutely do this and set the ship right as quick as possible. Can you imagine how much money the program will lose this season and next if O stays on? It will be a lot more than $12 million.

Sirius XM has been giving Alleva grief as well and I'm 100% in agreement with that.

If we play like shite again against Florida I feel like the firings will start beginning with Alleva. CEO may or may not make it to the end of the season.

If they can't turn it around they need to get rid of every single coach. Aranda may be a god of a DC but it appears he is not that great with getting all the guys on the same page. His base defense is terrible.

Or was Alleva directed to include that buyout?

“ Think for once in your life.”

I wish someone had made that suggestion to Joe about November 2015 and then again in December 2016.

The bottom line is does LSU want to make money or start watching money fly out the window at an alarming rate. We will see soon.

Ponamsky, Ruffin Rodrigue the guaranty broadcasting people, bobby Hebert, and Mike detillier tied this anchor to lsu themselves.

They got their boy the job and all of us have to watch our program sink. Alleva let the good ole boys run the show, he should have been fired last year.

Who wants to keep Alleva at this point? People are sick of the guy. He is going to cost the Athletic Department a lot more money if he isn't fired.

The blueprint here, believe it or not, should be Nebraska. Last month, that school’s administration fired athletic director Shawn Eichorst three weeks into the season. The unstated reason was the same one Alleva shouldn’t survive on the job one working day longer.

He can’t be trusted to hire the next coach if it’s this month or three years from now. Alleva has maneuvered this starship of a program into tractor beam of mediocrity.

From the article And this is the sad truth. We cant trust Joe to make a good hire that forker

e buyout isn't the issue. The money is there. It's the optics of paying roughly 20 million to two guys to NOT coach. In addition to the money you'd have to spend to buyout whoever else you let go, and to bring on a new staff. Anyone who says we don't have the money is flat out wrong

If we go 3-9 you have to fire O and make someone on the existing staff the head coach and backfill their position internally. You never know, it might work brilliantly, and we know O will never win more than 7 games here.
