Nobody was happy with they way Chavis left. Not many folks were inspired by the Steele hire (especially, without Coach O in tow). ATM's offense did not perform like Chavis expected and he was not able to turn around ATM's defense like ATM expected. Throw in the QB chaos and the lackluster recruiting and Chavis can't feel like he got what he was moving for. LSU beats ATM even without Chief running the D. LSU's D did ok but not up to expectations.

One year later Steele departs on his own and Miles hires Aranda. Now LSU has the hottest DC in the land to go along with a load of experienced talent and a remarkable recruiting class.

LSU ends up upgrading its defense and ATM flushes away two 5 star QBs.

Can't imagine this is what Chavis expected while he was planning his departure instead of preparing for Notre Dame. It is a shame that Chavis' call cost the pool boy his job.

We have Dave Aranda. Just enjoy that and laugh at the Aggies and Aubbies.

Nothing left to see here.

Chavis leaving should have gave us Aranda last year. We are very fortunate how it all shook out.

They still had one of the best pass defenses in the country. Chavis ds at LSU struggled against teams like Aub, arky and Bama and one time UF and state. Those teams could run power against you. Tamu has no where near the talent on the dline as LSU did when chavis first got here. So naturally I knew they would struggle stopping the run, as the dline talent declined here, so did the defense.

I don't know if our run defense would have been better, but our pass d sure as hell would have.

But I'm glad things happened the way they did. Les got some new blood in the program and a guy that seems to get the most out of his players on D. Just glad Alleva pulled his head out of his arse because he's the reason Chavis left in the first place and the reason they didn't replace him with Aranda last off season.

I had more animosity for him before the whole Les debacle occurred in November. Then, I realized exactly why he did what he did. I still think the way he handled his departure was classless, but I'm past that by now.

Having said that, he did an amazing job with the Aggie defense this past year. Imagine what their record would have been without him. I don't think they beat Miss. State, AZ State or Arky without him.

It is still mind blowing Miles chose Steele out of all those possible candidates, or maybe he wound up with him because nobody else wanted to come here.

At any rate, Aranda was on the list previously and i wonder what changed from last year to this year.

The deal was sweetened. He got a way better deal than dipshit Kevin Steele. Because Auburn paid us $500,000, Aranda basically will only cost us $400,000 more over the life of his contract. Thanks Auburn. I'm not sure LSU could have scripted this any better.

I know this is an LSU circle jerk thread, but this is just plain wrong.

They improved in most categories.

Significant improvements:
Scoring D
Passing D (Every single category)
Rushing TDs given up
Total YPG
Tackles for Loss

Slight improvements:
Total Yards per Play
Turnovers Forced

Stayed the same:
Rushing YPG
Rushing YPA
Sacks

So, let's not act like Chavis didn't improve their defense.

Aggy on the SECr told everyone that would listen that if they got "average" defensive play they would be in contention and probably win a national title. They got exactly what they said they needed and finished right where they always do. Chavis has to do more for them to get anything other than what they have always gotten. Fair or not. I'm sure he is motivated, so we'll see what they do next year.

No one said they weren't a bunch of delusional asshats, but Chavis was a huge upgrade over what they had.

Their offense and overall program are still dumpster fires, but the D will be solid.

I think you read what I said as trying to contradict you. I was just adding some embellishment.
