Their offense and overall program are still dumpster fires, but the D will be solid.

We'll see what it looks like without Myles Garrett and Daeshon Hall.

John Chavis walked into LSU with Michael Brockers, Drake Nevis, Bennie Logan, Sam Montgomery, Keke Mingo, etc. already on the roster. He finished his career here with Christian Lacouture, Frank Herron, Greg Gilmore, Danielle Hunter, and Jermauria Rasco.

Much like Gary Crowton, and possibly Cam Cameron, Chavis can undoubtedly coach, but getting elite players to come to campus is not in his wheelhouse.

It's funny how this worked out. Turns out Chavis leaving was the best thing that could happen to us. It just took a year for us to realize it.

I am glad he is gone. I am excited for the Aranda era at LSU. I have a great feeling about him.

The mistake guys like you continuously make is to evaluate coaches, recruits and players as though they are fans.

Chavis left because he's almost to retirement, and he wants to make it there on his next contract. He had leverage, so he decided to use that leverage to get a four (I think) year deal guaranteed. LSU would not give it to him; A&M did; so he left.

It seems to me that it worked out like Chavis wanted it to. I'm sure he would have appreciated the bonus of winning big, but make no mistake, Chavis accomplished his main goal, which was financial security.

That call cost more jobs than that.... (eventually)

Miles could have had Arnanda last year but the temptation to show up Saban was too good to pass up.

LSU does not end up with Orgeron if Chavis was still here.

Orgeron was on the Kiffin staff that replaced Fulmer, and Chavis is a "loyal" guy.

LSU would still have Brick and Chavis and be finishing second on Michael Divinity and Rashard Lawrence's list.

Can't imagine this is what Chavis expected while he was planning his departure instead of preparing for Notre Dame. It is a shame that Chavis' call cost the pool boy his job.

People need to let this go. It's been reported and pretty well accepted that Chavis wasn't bolting to aTm, he was getting out from under an AD that didn't even respect him enough to sit down and have a meeting with him. Chavis and Miles were as friendly as ever when they met this year. The same contract terms that ran him off are the ones that prevented LSU from hiring Aranda last year. I think he could have handled it a little better in regards to the bowl game, but I don't blame the guy in hindsight. If we've learned anything after a year, it's that some elements of the administration were undermining Miles' ability to retain and attract coaches, and hopefully that's behind us.

I hate that motherfricker for how he left and was recruiting for TAMU while being paid by LSU. He did better than I thought he did, looking back at the stats, here's what I've got:

_________2014 ___ 2015
Points Vs. - 365 ___ 286
P.P.G. Vs. - 28 ___ 23
Ret. Starters- 9 ___ 7

But the key stat is that LSU finished ranked 16th, A&M, unranked.

Chavis: One year later

No matter what anyone on this board wants to admit Chavis is a good "some say great" DC. I am sorry that he left the way he did, but I truly don't want him in the SEC West because one year does not make a resume. His resume is good for a reason, he is good. He will be able to build a good defense at TAMU simply because the state of Texas has the talent to be able to build good defenses. So Chavis and TAMU competing against LSU going forward will be a lot more difficult than it was this year, and if you don't believe that you truly don't know football.

Or how about just "We have Dave Aranda. Just enjoy that"

We are obsessed with Alabama and quickly becoming obsessed with TAM as well.

It's not mind blowing at all, if you remember the way it went down. When Aranda didn't come, Miles had a good list of candidates, but went with Steele because of his experience in the SEC, and his great recruiting and defensive experience.
Miles went after Shoop, but he got a raise to stay at Penn St.
All and All, it has worked out very well for LM and LSU. Give Miles and Alleva credit for getting who they originally wanted last year, and signed this year.
