I agree. I was responding to a previous question from another poster.

I would like to see what contract attorneys say about this. Does A&M owe the buyout because they negotiated with him prior to 1/1 or are they ok if the contract was not executed until 1/1?

I think Chavis told CLM he was leaving for aTm on the 31st. He was on the hook until 1/1/15 0:00.

LSU needs to let it go regardless of any legal points. Move on and do not draw attention to how we lost Chavis.

If it is a slam dunk case and he owes LSU 400k bc the contract rolls to 12/31/2015 I absolutely want him to go after it.

As a public institution he might not have a choice.

If there is an offer and that offer is accepted, a legally binding contract is created. Contracts are almost always placed in writing to prove what the parties agreed to. But it does not have to be in writing to be a valid contract. See Pennzoil vs. Texaco.

You may have studied a bit of K law.

Have you taken evidence or trial practice yet?

What about any marketing or pr courses?

I haven't read the contract, but even if Chavis negotiated and signed a contract to provide services elsewhere in2015, it is HIGHLY unlikely to be breach of any enforceable contract with LSU.
Here's the bigger point:
We knew the terms were expiring and asked everybody to re up.
Everybody BUT Chavis did, signed their contracts and sent them back.
We knew two weeks ago TAM offered Chavis.
It does not Appear Alleva began implementing a plan B to find a new DC until Chavis formally served out the contract.
THAT is what Alleva should be fired for, not for losing the existing DC who was very expensive and whose consent was beyond our control.
Had we begun and implemented Plan B, we wouldn't look so stupid today and would likely have something to tell recruits.

the issue of LSU ending the home and home with aTm back in the 1990's will surely resurface now!!!!!!!

Laughing at everybody acting like 400,000 dollars is like a nickle. Who gives a shite what it looks like? If u can get the money, get it. Can use it for a coach in the future

Meaux,
It appears he was altogether free to negotiate a new contract, effective upon expiration of the old one.
LSU loses this one, imo.
You guys know that the law kinda frowns on indentured servitude nowadays, right?

Point being missed: If he owes the money, then do what you need to do to get it, but don't go spouting off like a whiny butthurt bitch like our fricking AD is doing.

He is the one who caused this mess, and now he's making it worse!

How much to get rid of Alleva??

You know what scares me...this moron is in charge of hiring our new DC and his contract. Let that sink in!

What ever happened to two weeks notice? Chavis gives notice on 12/16 that he is leaving and LSU can either let him coach the bowl game or dismiss him with no penalty.

Seems like there are some hurt feelings and strained relationships in play. Not a lot of professionalism IMO.

Having Aleva in the mix will be damage enough.
