I know a good number of posters were against the hiring of ED O as the HC for the program....and for good reason. His track record as HC was anything buy exemplary and there certainly wasn't a qualitative or quantitative search conducted by the administration for an experienced/successful replacement for Miles.

Personally, I didn't support the hiring at the time but have come to support O based on the moves he's made so far.

With all that said.....how long does the admin allow CEO to stay on if he:
A. Has a losing season this year?
B. posts a couple of 7-5 type seasons?
C. Starts to slip with recruiting?

(His contract is 5 yr/$3.5 million per)

Bottom line...is he on a short leash?

I think he'll be here 4 yrs. Once Aranda leaves, I think the program will slip a bit further.

A. Team is better than a .500 season just off talent alone.
B. 7-5 seasons are not going to happen with Aranda coaching defense and canada finds a serviceable Qb which will eventually happen he put 3 mediocre Qb's in the nfl already.
C. Orgeron is one of if not the best recruiters in college football!!

The football team's glory days are clearly over, but there are a disturbing number of fans that are fine with losing. If we were to have a losing record this season, there should be a lynch mob outside Joe Alleva's house. Would that actually happen or would there just be a bunch of talk about how it was always about next season?

He should never have been hired in the first place, but barring a scandal of some sort, I would say a minimum of 3 years.

I do think he can be successful, but his long term tenure will depend on his ability to continue to recruit at a very high level and his ability to hire top coordinators every year or two.

The leash is constantly sliding and that's part of the problem.

Not only that, let's say he goes a respectable 11-2 or 10-3 this year. Aranda has a great year and leaves. Then he scrambles to find someone to fill the spot. Goes 8-4/7-5 for two years....

"Oh O just needs a DC..."

Gets a decent DC, gets 9, 10 or 11 wins the next season....Canada leaves....

7-5, 7-5.....etc.

O's lack of true football expertise and philosophy and inability to really guide either side of the ball is a problem if we want to be an elite consistent winner.

A.)
Losing season? So 5-7 or worse? I imagine he doesn't make it to the end of the season in a situation like that. Totally unacceptable at a place like LSU.

B.)

Depends entirely on what precedes or follows these 7-5 seasons. If he wins BIG at any point than he will have a job for at least 3 years following that.

He could survive:

2017: 7-5
2018- 14-0
2019: 0-12
2020: 2-10

But if he goes:

2017: 7-5
2018: 7-5

2019 he has to win big or he is gone.

C. Starts to slip with recruiting?

Difficult thing to evaluate but recruiting is the lifeblood of the program. If we start consistently finishing outside of the top 10, we will lose more games and he will be let go.

If we rank 20th in recruiting every year but somehow win 14 games and the Natty, no one will care.

He is the only head coach I've ever heard of that convinced those hiring that he should be hired BECAUSE HE WILL NOT COACH.

His whole pitch is that I will stay out of the decision making on offense and defense.

This was a clown-show hire.

I think he's a good dude in over his head. tgd fans will suffer as a result thereof.

What qualifies you to make this statement? I've seen nothing but speculation on this matter.

absolutely nothing suggests that he is in over his head

to those worried about Aranda leaving, I think O has proved that he can go out and hire good assistants when he needs to

I'm not sold on him being head coach, but I'm certainly not ready to say he isn't ready. We have no idea how things will go yet.

He gets this season AT LEAST to show whether or not he has learned from his past mistakes and can be a good, maybe great, head coach

We have such a weak HC hire that the whole focus is on the OC and DC's doing the job with the coaching and The Orgeron recruiting the talent.
Confidence level in coaches fulfilling the obligations of their position:
1. Aranda;

2.Jenkins;
3.Raymond
4.Canada (TBD);

5.The Orgeron
6.Others?

And people were shocked when we let McClendon go and he had been here 18 years. I am really getting sick and tired of this endless wanting to fire coaches without even giving them a chance. How many contracts can you buy out before even LSU football goes broke?

As far as what is acceptable in a record I would say 8 to 9 wins a year is good. Believe it or not, it takes a whole team to win championships, not just 5 or 6 NFL players. With Alabama somehow winning every recruiting battle that will be hard to do.

What magic will a new coach have to start getting lots of 5 stars? Are we ready to start paying players and end up in another big scandal with big penalties that will keep the team down for years?
