O has done exactly what he needed to do up until this point in order to be successful. Retained Aranda. Hired Canada. Brought in some coaches that can both coach and recruit. Has recruited well. I didnt like the hire at first either, but he has impressed the hell out of me so far. On paper we look like a really tough team this fall, now we have to go out and perform.

Lol yea I had no idea. It's only fitting that his expertise was his downfall. O would coach circles around Leslie at their respective positions.

Again, he wasn't fired because he had no philosophy.

I know it was because his "philosophy" was that of 10 yr old youth YMCA team

There is nothing in my post about "hating" Kiffin. I do recognize his significant character flaws (immaturity, narcissism) which have made him a cancer in the programs he has worked in. His dismissal at SC and removal prior to the bowl game at Bama should give you some idea of the problem).
Kiffen would never consider Orgeron a peer, much less respect him as a head coach and it appears Kiffen allowed Da Coach O to get way down the road with the notion he might come to LSU at OC, with no intention to do so.
LSU inadvertently jumped over a snake when Kiffen went to Fl. to slay poon.

The leash is longer so long as Alleva sticks around. If Alleva is let go early in Ed's tenure and Ed doesn't do well - all bets are off.

I support Ed and LSU, but despise the shite show hiring process that Alleva went through that ultimately resulted in Ed's hiring. I think Ed is a good dude, I am just not convinced he is the best that LSU could have done.

I'm not sure how short his leash is but for the sake of the program he needs a fast start.. the media will be all over Lsu if O struggles after firing "the mad hatter". Perception is reality and if O doesn't fare well it will be a pressure cooker around Baton Rouge

Let's dispense with the myth that Da Coach O is responsible for Aranda being on the staff. He was already here and Alleva made sure he stayed.
Both The Orgeron and Alleva knew that LSU fans would have burned the campus down if they let Aranda leave last year. This was not some stroke of genius by Da Coach O...

I love the people who say CEO success will be tied to how well he recruits and hires coaches. That pretty much sums up any head coach success.

If you give Miles 11 years O is forever.

Given his record, if he is not on a short leash, our admin is worse than i thought. Whether or not you believe so, this is anything but a rebuilt job. There are a few positions that are lacking depth, but the talent on this team should still compete for the SEC.

With all that said.....how long does the admin allow CEO to stay on if he:
A. Has a losing season this year? GONE
B. posts a couple of 7-5 type seasons? GONE after 2 years
C. Starts to slip with recruiting? Gone after 2 years

It's a short leash. He'll be fine this year but no improvement from the past few seasons and hell be gone before 2020.

I hate to say this, but the terms of Da Coach O's contract are fundamentally inconsistent with a "short leash".
Little has been said about the HORRIBLE job Alleva did with this contract, which while hiring The Orgeron on cheap, has HUGE financial disincentives to terminating him before the term is up.

Brilliant analysis. Kind of funny that Dandy reported this piece of information this very morning.

https://www.dandydon.com/

quote:

File this under the category of “For What It’s Worth.” In an interview with Sports Talk host Bo Mattingly, current Florida Atlantic Coach Lane Kiffin was asked if he was really considering working with Coach Ed Orgeron at LSU last December. His answer? “I was, because I really think they’re going to win a lot there, and do great things.

Any other great insight you may have about Coach O and his ability to make hires and such would be greatly appreciated. I like HAVING to laugh out loud.

I don't think you'll find anyone here that disagrees with this assessment, so if you're trolling for bites, you may be in for disappointment.
