CBS' Jerry Palm, "Without that Kentucky win, LSU is barely an NIT team"

I was looking at the CBS bracketology and LSU is listed as a 12 seed "auto-qualifier" because they currently lead the SEC. He claims that they don't have an at-large bid at the moment and without the win against Kentucky, they are "barely an NIT team."
Now maybe he has a case, but he clearly is going strictly off numbers rather than any "eye-test" or factoring in Hornsby/Victor missing the beginning of the year.
I'll never forgive this guy for claiming that his final BCS calculations had OKST in ahead of Bama though.

LSU won that game so why does it matter?
If I didn't have 20 bucks in my pocket right now then I'd have zero.

Palm has LSU in the tourney though.

And your point is to be negative and try to show there's still one clown's negative opinion that you support against all the positive opinions of them now?

I think Palm is an idiot. LSU is receiving votes for being in a top 25 poll. Not even NIT? Give me a break

Well LSU still has 8 games remaining plus the SEC Tournament so I wouldn't put much into where someone has LSU seeded. This will matter more at the end of the month

LSU has plenty of opportunities to fill out its resume in the last 8 games, but I would take an "auto bid" any day of the week.

Where did you get that I was trying to be negative? I've said all year this team was making the tournament and I was surprised it still is on the outside looking in according to some. The strength of his comment struck me as odd regarding the team barely being barely NIT worthy because it sounds absurd and thought it would be noteworthy to share. I thought it was discussion worthy.
My point in posting this is that there may be some experts and possibly committee members who won't be so forgiving of the awful non-conference performance. Based strictly on numbers, top 50 RPI wins/non top 50 RPI losses, etc, this team probably is on the outside. Fortunately, most people see beyond strictly the numbers and will take into account the absences and the "eye test."
I've made the case that LSU will get in if they are anywhere close to the bubble because of Simmons' star power and the UCLA/Texas inclusions last year.

Borderline NIT team?
What a retarded opinion.

I think the " _______ hates LSU " is overplayed, but damn this guy apparently has an issue with us.

He can say what he likes, so long as we get in the tourney I don't much care

Tell Jerry Palm I got him as the No.1 overall seed in the Come catch this fade invitational. I'm only sending out invite too, Jerry. You the guest of honor frickboy.

quote:So much wrong with this statement.
"Without that Kentucky win, LSU is barely an NIT team"
I can do it relative to yesterday with ease: "Without that Super Bowl win yesterday, Peyton Manning is 1-3 in Super Bowls."
"Without a great defense, Denver Broncos are barely a playoff team".
The narrative is to take away a win and then make a statement from that pretense. If I take away the murder weapon, then the entire case is circumstantial.

Y'all are taking this all wrong. He is saying we deserve to be in the NCAA tournament!!! woohoo!! Well that is what it means.

This guy must have stopped watching after the Charleston loss.

As I said yesterday in another thread, Palm always seems to have us slightly lower than Lunardi/the actual committee.
Last year was like this, he was very reluctant to have us in as anything more than a last four in. His final submission had us heading to Dayton as an 11 seed, where of course the committee had us safely in as a 9 seed.
Not gonna worry about this too much. The truth is our resume is pretty thin, we must admit. He doesn't like it as much as Lunardi and seems less willing to consider factors outside of the RPI, that's fine. For better or worse Palm seems to stay pretty faithful to that number.
It doesn't matter, we'll be in.
