Lol...that OL only has a month to prepare. You do realize he is the only projected starter we have lost.

You will have a few Lsu fans give you props etc, but the truth is that if Lsu doesn't beat the shite out of you, we are going to have a rough year. You are our 8th or 9th toughest opponent.

That said, Lsu wins by 3 tds

Sure, could happen. But here's my own "that said":

That said, it would be the exception and not the rule to how games have gone for BYU. Our P5 matchups tend to run close. Oh, we'll have a Michigan 2015 or FSU 2010 every so often, but the norm is to be in the fight all the way deep into the fourth quarter.

Just too much history as to the mindset and performance of a BYU team to think otherwise.

Having watched Etling play since he was in HS, stopping your offense will come down to keeping the ball in his hands.

He doesn't have to do much. At a minimum he has to spread the ball around enough to keep your defense honest.

I expect a good, competitive game but I don't think the Cougars will win unless LSU gives you guys some gifts.

Have fun in Houston.

What is the strength of BYU's defense? How is the front 7 experience and talent wise.
Expected
Team strength?
Team weakness?

For us I expect our back end to be talented but fully expect some break downs in coverage that allow a few easy plays. I feel like our dline will be good and give you problems in obvious passing situations.
Offensively I think our strength will be the experience on Oline and the back field. We lack depth on the Oline but don't think the 5 we trot out on week 1 won't be stout. I think our WR could struggle early but expect another guy to emerge as a go to guy after a few weeks. It's hard for any LSU fan to really know what to expect from the offense so your guess is as good as ours. We just know the players.

What is the strength of BYU's...

Defense: LBs and DBs. All three starting LBs return after being 1,2,3 in tackles on the season in 2016.

Fred Warner is the special one. Needs to up his game against the run to meet his potential. Good test against LSU to see where he's at.

Butch Pau'u is the battering ram--see highlights against Utah and UCLA where he comes up smiling after crushing the RB in the hole...Utah's RB Joe Williams "retired" last year for a few weeks after getting embarrassed by Pau'u. Losing him to injury for a few weeks was an obvious dropoff in the D until his return.

Francis Bernard is a RB turned LB playing on the strong side of the field. Good in space against either the run or the pass.

Three of four starting DBs return with the type of athleticism that BYU hasn't been known for in the past (thank you growing demographics of the LDS Church).

DL sees the return of a good pass rusher in Sione Takitaki (not a miss spelling) after suspension in 2016 and coaches are raving about his ability against the run after one week of camp, but we're talking about practice. Others on the DL got plenty of minutes last year, but remains to be seen what we really have.

Strength on offense is the OL. Four starters return to a group that plowed their way to over 200 rushing yards a game (another non-traditional BYU stat). Losing Jamaal Williams will see a committee of RBs trying to step up. The line will be key to that.

Mangum returns after passing for more yards than any freshman BYU QB in its history...not a small feat. Over 3300 yards with 24 TDs and only 10 INTs. Good yardage and even better TD/INT ratio for being right off a mission to Chile. This will be the first season that the starting QB will have had all spring, summer and fall camp to prep for the season since 2014. We're excited to what Mangum's growth will have been in the offseason.

WRs are unproven.

BYU will see a renewal of its emphasis on the TE. Matt Bushman is off his mission and was the star of the spring game and has continued to make waves to this point in camp. Attacking the middle of the field with the TE will be something that teams will have to prepare for against BYU.

Weaknesses:
our FG kicker can't hit anything outside 40 yards with a career long of 37.

Pass D was bend but don't break giving up a lot of yards between the 20s.

No RB has distinguished himself yet. Next year, we'll be talking about Ula Tolutau, but he is just back from his mission and not exactly free yet of the rust from two years away.

No WR was willing to be "the guy" last year and the fear is that it will take time for someone to claim that role. 3rd down conversions without Taysom Hill's legs to count on will be tougher to come by.

If a human has 3,000 thoughts a day then:

for LSU fans about half of those thoughts, or 1,500 a day are thoughts of actively participating in the temporary enjoyment of sin.

How many thoughts of the 3,000 per day does the BYU fan think about actively participating in the temporary enjoyment of sin.

I think this will make for an intriguing matchup, as I think Aranda has a bevy of talented pass rushers at his disposal and he'll start getting imaginative with his packages (a la his final season at Wisconsin).

Offensively, I think a lot of us expect Canada to stretch the field horizontally rather than vertically, which should help to mask any deficiencies Etling might have with the deep ball. I expect it takes a while for LSU to find their footing on offense, but somewhere in 3Q we start clicking.

Nobody realistically expects LSU to win a natty this year (although it'd be nice), but our coordinators give us a chance to be electric on both sides of the ball.

How many thoughts of the 3,000...

Given that this is a famous Book of Mormon scripture:

"But this much I can tell you, that if ye do not watch yourselves, and your thoughts, and your words, and your deeds, and observe the commandments of God, and continue in the faith of what ye have heard concerning the coming of our Lord, even unto the end of your lives, ye must perish. And now, O man, remember, and perish not."
-Mosiah 4:30

I'd say 2,999.

Your p5 opponents last year probably didn't have a combined .400 win %. Specifically, Ariz st had 9 losses, UCLA had 8 losses, miss state had 7 losses, and one other power 5 team had 9 losses, although I can't recall the team.
