Myself and another poster made "somewhat similar" allusions" to the founding of your faith.

I want to make sure you understand that MINE was purely intended in good nature and as a joke.

I found the OTHER to be tasteless and crass.

I have ZERO issue with anyone's faith and wish you nothing but peace and love on that issue.

I am an atheist. But, I am very active on our Political Talk board. I am VERY consistent with my stance (backed by a large number of posts) that I am NOT "anti" anyone's religious beliefs. I'll "joke" with someone. I will not belittle their faith.

No worries. The LDS Church buys advertising space in the playbill for every showing of The Book of Mormon musical. We know we're weird. But if we were all the same flavor in this world, life would be pretty bland.

That's one of the reasons why I like the fact we are independent in football. We get to interact with fans all over the country every year, learn about them and their school, and do the same in return. Just since independence in 2011, I have been to games at Ol' Miss, MTSU, Virginia, Wisconsin, Cincinnati, Nebraska, and Notre Dame. Great football and great people all over the country.

This is one of the interesting aspects of this matchup. BYU was second in the country at creating turnovers last year--led the nation in INTs. Will that continue (course, we found a way in one game to get SIX turnovers and still lose by 1, and in another TWO PICK SIXES and still lose by one)?

How vanilla will LSU's offense be able to stay and still move the ball without putting it in harm's way? Can they rely on the run game? And if not (either by design or because of BYU's defense), does Etling have the timing and chemistry down with his entirely new bevy of receivers?

I can promise you that it will be anything but vanilla with Canada at the reins.

Well, I'm less confident after watching those rb spring drills. Thank goodness we have Guice this year. Seems Canada likes to use the rb in the passing game but that was ugly.

Did Williams or Nicolas B, catch any of those passes? I hope all the Lsu rb's had a productive summer working on their hands.

Welcome, I've always respected BYU. I used to love reading the tales of Jim McMahon on campus, barricaded in his dorm, drinking a cup of coffee
We LOVE our coffee down here, btw. Isn't just a cup of hot brown liquid for breakfast, we take pride in the stuff that comes out of here.

I think the game will be close as LSU bumbles around trying to run the new offense for awhile, but at some point the "new playbook" will be set aside and we'll force-feed Guice the ball. He's the clear difference maker on the field, and all the shifts and formation changes aren't going to distract your defense from keying on him; so we'll line up in a power formation and let it play out.

I noted that our WRs don't give you much concern... keep an eye on DJ Chark. If he was on a more pass-happy team, he might be up for All American consideration. Seriously. He's got enough size, the deep speed, good hands, and most importantly, he's got that "IT" factor, he rises to the moment.
Remember that loss to Auburn, where the last play was negated? That was Chark making the tip toe catch in the endzone that would have won the game.
4th and long against Florida, driving for what would have been the winning TD? Chark again, on a post/in route.
Caught one of the few big gainers in the Alabama game, a jump ball down the right sideline.
There's more plays to list, but you get the point. Some guys look good in the weight room or as recruits, others elevate on the field. Chark is one that does it on the field.

There will be no delusions of grandeur. How do BYU fans think the BYU offense is going to move the ball successfully against the LSU defense? You are definitely not going to control the ball on the ground. Consequently, LSU is going to force BYU into long down and distance.

Who at RB, TE or WR on the BYU offense presents a mismatch for the LSU defense in obvious passing situations?

Thanks for the heads up. Is it Dee Anderson on the other side? He's the big kid at 6'5" 220, right?

Dee will be in the rotation for sure. The guy behind Chark could be a number of guys. Along with Dee we have Drake Davis (6'4") and Stephen Sullivan (6'6"). The majority of our receivers are huge

Same plot, different characters. Do you realize how many times I've been asked this very question from every single P5 opponent's fans?

My favorite interaction was with the Texas fans leading up to our game in 2013. "You can't compete with our Top 5 recruiting classes the last five years! You don't have the skill anywhere on the field to keep up!" Well, after pasting them for 550 rushing yards and winning 40-21, they fired their DC on the plane ride back to Austin.

Then, we got to hear more of the same after their coaching change going into 2014. But then they added, "You won't surprise us this year! Texas players have the game circled! We're in the heat in Austin this time!"

Yeah, 41-7 BYU.

To think that your players are better based on recruiting rankings...sure, I'll give you that. But to sit here and dismiss BYU even having the ability to move the ball? Let's have some sense of reality, shall we?

There are a couple things in BYU's favor:

1. LSU game is our Game #2. We get that ever important tune-up game against an FCS foe (8/26 at 2 PM CT on ESPN, if you're interested). Sure, that will show your coaches some things and provide film on the changes to the offense now that our QB is more suited to what our OC wants to do. But having a game in Week 0 can't just be discounted.

2. And speaking of the QB...BYU has the better one in this game. Etling is a great kid. I'm from his hometown, am friends with his family, and watched him play in HS. But he wasn't Elite 11, let alone the camp MVP. He didn't start as a freshman putting up over 3300 passing yards and 24 TDs. Mangum will make more plays than Etling.

3. OL to match up. I wouldn't be too quick to say we definitely won't be able to run the ball. We've finally dug out of our hole on the OL where we only had 8-11 scholarship players (sound familiar?) from 2010-2016. Four returning starters that churned out a 200+ rushing yards per game offense last year.

Rumors are they've finally clicked with regards to the pro set pass protection schemes that they struggled with last year. Being able to do both means that we won't need to control the ball on the ground like last year. 80-120 rushing yards will be enough to open up the passing game. A return to more draw trap instead of power I as well.

RBs Squally Canada and Riley Burt (but watch out for occasional plays from Ula Tolutau in short yardage)

TEs Matt Bushman and Moroni Laulu-Pututau

WRs will have difficulty making plays against the CBs that LSU normally has. Majority of passing yards will come from TEs and RBs because that is more scheme based. WRs making plays is more pure talent based and being able to beat the man across from them. Not the forte for BYU WRs. With the assumption that LSU will man up on the outside, should be a similar tune in Houston. Has always been that way when we play a team like LSU.
