Say he goes back to school and becomes a first round pick. Gets drafted in 2016 and plays well through his contract. NFL team picks up his 5th year on his rookie deal and he cant sign a second contract until 2021.

This is retarded.

The 32nd pick (a QB) in the 2014 draft got a $6.8 Million contract for 4 years. The 135th pick (a QB) got a $2.5 Million contract for 4 years.

So you think a QB should give up $4.3 Million so that he can get his second contract a year earlier?

Report on Braxton's shoulder wasn't good, so who knows if you could even be the Braxton of old.

Jones is in a unique position for sure draft wise and even playing time at OSU if he returns. Miller's injury really limits his options.

Cardale Jones has not demonstrated that he is willing to stay in the pocket and let pass plays develop. That is an important skill for NFL QBs. The skills Jones has demonstrated appear similar to those of Colin Kaepernick, good arm strength, decent accuracy, but prone to give up on pass in order to run too quickly. Jones' athleticism is good enough to make that work at the college level, but I don't know if he is ready for NFL defenses.

Damn you must be a top NFL evaluator for the QB position. I but you were a better passer than Him too. He is more pro ready than anyone in college football idiot

I mean idk.. Might be what? A 3rd-4th rounder now. Could return and become a 1st rounder. There's arguments for both sides.

Being a 1st round draft pick just doesn't matter anymore if you grade out anywhere from the 1st-4th round. It's more important to start your rookie contract. Cardale's stock will never be higher than right now.

Dan Patrick jokingly said he should come out since there is no bad film on him right now.

This is actually true though. Right now, all they have is footage of him against 3 good teams when he and the rest of the team were jacked up out of this world. So everything looks good. They don't have any footage of him when the team isn't that excited to play and they're playing with the bull's-eye on their back.

In theory giving up $4mil to get to the 2nd contract sooner makes sense if he ends up being a very good QB.

But there's always the risk that the 2nd contract never comes or that it's at the league minimum.

ETA: I do think Cardale should go.. Given the fact that in his odd situation, there is just as much risk if he stays.

What's retarded would be going back to school to sit and be a back up for no money. He can do that in the NFL next year and make half a million dollars.

another temporary Band-Aid.

Or to have a capable QB for 2015 if Harris isn't ready to take over. If not, we have the same results as this year. Having Miller or even Golson puts an experienced QB behind center and doesn't waste the talent we have on offense.

He's been projected as 4th round or better. He should take the money.

He can still develop in the NFL, vs. just developing in college.

Already has a title.

Agreed, NFL is a completely different animal in college and you can judge a player by 3 games.

Frankly who would not rather see one of our own step up, but it ain't gonna happen - until something seriously changes on the offensive side of the house, nothing changes ...

If you keep doing the same thing over and over again and get the same the results, you have a perfect plan in place to never have an LSU QB coming out of HS making our team successful due to their skills and talent

Yup. The argument for this kid staying is flimsy at best.

He should go.

People project improperly on these high profile kids.

90% of NFL guys don't "make it" very long.

Many end up in bankruptcy or whatever.

None of that is going to change for him if he stays or goes, so he should go.

People aren't looking at this right. He's frickED if he doesn't play at OSU next year.

It really is a unique situation. There are too many unknown variables if he stays.

Exactly. It's like a gambler not hedging his big potential win on a parlay.

He needs to go now to hedge. If he stays, he may play, but very likely he rides pine and then what? Transfer?

Who in their right fricking mind would do that and pass up the money?
