Should have never come to lsu. It's a fricking dumpster fire. JJ is laughable and Joe is worse for employing this fool one more year. Season tickets turned in. Will not support until JJ is gone.

Except opposing coaches will spin it to be about what LSU did or didn't do while Simmons was here

You turned in your season tickets? How did you do that? You may almost be as big of a drama queen as Alt26.

$12 million is still life-changing money....especially just for a shoe deal. He's set for the rest of his life...unless he blows it!

This kid is why i have a dislike of basketball in general, so many big heads who think it's about themself, especially when it affects the team as whole which plagued a bunch of the players of the basketball team and CJJ didn't hold himself above these players and control them

Don't disagree but perception is reality. And perception is that Simmons wasted his time by coming to play for a shite program that happens to be LSU.

It's a bold strategy that is going to bite them in the arse.

If Ben's market value took a hit, it's not because of LSU. It's because the entire nation saw his effort on the floor and lack of willingness to compete for victory.

This.

And the flaws in his game were exposed - such as having no offensive game whatsoever outside of 5 feet.

It's 100 mill rumor floated everywhere while he's still in school then as soon as he declares its 12mill.

Build them up to tear them down culture. Or fattening up the kids Hansel & Gretel style to get a bigger story out of them b4 they are consumed

Wish I had this problem. Oh you're only going to get 12 million

You are kidding right? The difference in 12 million and 100 million (or even 50 million) is life changing money. If he signs for 12 million his agent will likely get 10%, his manager may get 10% and the tax man will get 50%. He would be lucky to walk with 5 million dollars (probably over a 5 year period). This is not "never have to work again money". If you change the contract amount to 50 million, he probably walks with 20 million and that is "never have to work again money" (even assuming he is a bust and makes no money in the NBA). If the reports are correct that his endorsement value has fallen from 100 million to 12 million that is huge for him (not to mention depressing and disappointing).

it's the nature of sports. Simmons was the no. 1 recruit in the nation - that comes with massive hype and huge expectations.

So if a guy doesn't live up to those expectations (yes, which may be unreasonably high) then he's going to be criticized. Nature of the business.

Also keep in mind that the hype increases his exposure and marketability, and he's about to be a multi-millionaire, so let's not shed too many tears for the guy.

I mean it's obviously not good for LSU bc of the article, but maybe he just isn't Labron or curry...

He had the chance to take over games late and never did. Yes he put up great overall stats but he never took the team on his back at the end of close games and dominated.

If he knew 80 million was on the line maybe he would have. And that might be the problem here, and why he's only worth 12.

Is there anything wrong with holding off a year then signing a shoe contract? It's not like he'll be going hungry, and if he is what he thinks he is Nike/adidas will fight like hell for him. If he's not... Well then he never was and that's on him not LSU

Anyone that thought he was going to make $100M based on some random internet rumor is a fool. He was never going to get that, it was clearly a ceiling figure, which people seemed to think he was worthy of

This doesn't have anything to do with LSU. This has to do with ROI. If anything, Ben showed he is not yet capable of elevating an otherwise poor team, which is a situation we will likely find him in. Will be hard to gain popularity in a team that never gets on tv. Are we to believe that all of his fame will transpire because he come from a country with less than 30M ppl?

Again, the only way he would have gotten this kind of cash is if he lived up to the hype, which would have been tough on any team. Don't get me wrong, I think he will turn out to have a good NBA career, but he won't be turning heads immediately unless he winds up in LA, they spend big around him and it somehow works, or possibly if Nola lucks out.

The reality of the situation is he came to LSU as the number 1 or 2 pick and will leave as the number 1 or 2 pick. So how is that a waste of his time? Meanwhile at Kentucky Skai Labissaire came in as the number 1 or 2 pick and he has fallen. If Skai comes to LSU and Ben doesn't and he is their only option he would put up great stats and still be the 1 or 2 pick. To me it says if you are great go to a team that needs you and you will be the focal point. At Kentucky they will just put guys in over you and be fine.

Wow, I have to disagree with that. With a net of $5 million in the bank, he'll have an income stream of $250k annually if he gets just a 5% return on his money. Now $250k isn't enough to support an extremely lavish lifestyle, but he can absolutely never work again with that $5 million cushion.
