Move over, Starbury. I'd pay upwards of $15 for a pair of Ben Simmons' Pro Champs.

Simmons was never getting a $100M. The guy is a good player but not nearly as good as he was hyped up to be

I disagree. I think that time will show just how talented he really is.

What exactly did Ben do ? Not shoot enough 3s ? Is it his fault the coaching sucked and he is only 19yo ?

at least Kansas

FWIW,

Kansas had the #1 player in the country in Josh Selby and he was a 2nd round pick. They had #2 ranked Cliff Alexander last eyar and he wasnt even drafted. Andrew Wiggins hype dropped a decent amount at Kansas. If you have good recruiters, you can offset some of the negativity.

Same thing happened with Andrew Wiggins. Jahlil Okafor. Its the college game thats killing the hype, not LSU.

DING DING DING

Simmons put up great numbers this season, and even though many were left with a stale taste in their mouth, it's all but proven that 1 and done players typically do themselves a disservice in that 1 year.

Don't disagree but perception is reality. And perception is that Simmons wasted his time by coming to play for a shite program that happens to be LSU.

It's not even perception at this point. Simmons made a bad choice coming to LSU no matter how you slice it. He'd likely have lost some stock anywhere he went (think a CFB player leaving as junior when his stock couldn't get any higher-coming back would only hurt. Similar here since he was the consensus 1 or 2 pick coming out of HS)

Did you not watch this year? No fire, no emotion, no grit, no leadership, bad team chemistry, no taking over games when it mattered (ala Buddy Hield, and other true superstars), no elevating his team, cruise-control attitude, ... oh, and a very disappointing W-L record.

Is that enough to feel disappointed?

(oh, and forget 3s, I'd have been happy just to see the guy nail a 10-footer once in a while.)

This exactly why Jones should've been fired. LSU basketball is tainted now. No blue chip recruit is going to play for this coach ever again.

Jones and LSU do look bad here, but Simmons has to take some of the blame.

He was the one that was going through the motions on D, playing at his own pace, and the one with hardly any offensive game.

For his size he is an elite athlete who can run, pass and dribble; however like a big baseball player who can't hit; he won't every be a big star at the next level unless he can score. Sure he can get better, work on his game, etc. but it's a risk. Who knows if he will ever come around?

The Rantards are going to pile on Simmons on here I'm sure, but this is terrible for LSU Basketball, no matter how you slice it
Yep. And I agree with Bilas. I would never come here or any other non power school if I was the number 1 guy. If Simmons went to UK or Duke he would have put up 20/12/5 and made a tournament run and his value would not have gone down at all. WAAAAAAAY to risky to come here. This shows it.

Haha.. did you even read the post I replied to ?

Too bad Ben did not play like a senior with a good coach (buddy hield)... Too bad he passed too much and destroyed the team chemistry... too bad he get everyone involved and never took enough games over for you.. he just sucked

Simmons would have gone to the tourney if he had gone to Duke or UK but he wouldn't have averaged 20/12/5.

What is the risk? He will still be the number 1 or 2 pick which is where he was before he came to LSU. Skai Labisaire was rated just as high as Ben went to a big school struggled and dropped because other people on the team took his playing time. He comes to LSU that doesn't happen he puts up amazing stats because he would be the team and is still a top pick.

Meh, let's not forget he will have a guaranteed contract of probably 6 million a year in salary. Simmons will be fine financially.

Of course, he'll be set for life. But to be picky, the rookie pay scale is as follows:

Pick:2 1st Year Salary:$4,252,600 2nd Year Salary:$4,444,000 3rd Year:$4,635,300
Pick:3 1st Year Salary:$3,818,900 2nd Year Salary:$3,990,700 3rd Year:$4,162,600
Pick:4 1st Year Salary:$3,443,100 2nd Year Salary:$3,598,100 3rd Year:$3,753,000
Pick:5 1st Year Salary:$3,117,900 2nd Year Salary:$3,258,200 3rd Year:$3,398,600
