I've come to the conclusion that in no way, shape or form is Steele a downgrade from Chavis. John Chavis cost LSU many wins because of his approach and he was a lazy recruiter. We will be fine.

Maybe his work ethic / hunger for the game has taken some time to develop (not sure I agree with those allegations), but the fact that you deny his potential is laughable.

It's not any more laughable than saying he's going to get it. Here's what's going to happen. Harris will play a game or two where he hands the ball of to Fournett and we'll win. Then Jennings will be reinstated and we'll have a mediocre season at best. Then next year Harris still won't have the playbook down and you will be saying "Calm down! He's only 20 and this is first year as the real starting QB."

What brought you to this conclusion?

Only thing true in this post is that Chavis didn't recruit.

I tend to agree that some issues are systemic. Moreover, I don't recall, excluding Mack Brown's Vince Young run, a high profile coach, at a high profile university righting the ship once it it started taking on water.

Mack Brown was on an upward trend from his first season at Texas in 1998 through his championship in 2005. It's true titles had avoided him until that point, but they were an elite program.

A better example would be the rise and fall of Joe paterno. Penn State had 4 losing seasons from 2000-2004. It appeared as if Paterno was out of touch with the modern game and over the hill. In 2005 he went 11-1 and had several good seasons until he was fired in 2011.

I'm not saying I want Miles to go down the way JoePa did, but just because he's trending in the wrong direction doesn't mean he can't right the ship and get LSU back to elite status in a hurry. He's earned a couple of years to see if he can get it done. Remember, LSU went 8-5 in 2008 and the next 3 seasons LSU improved each year until they made the national championship.

I believe there's still some magic left under that hat.

You shouldn't talk about current LSU Tigers like that

Steele is the x-factor, it was an underwhelming hire. The D staff otherwise is strong, so it may turn out ok, or he could be to Les what Tepper was to Dinardo.

I personally think the offense will be good this year. Fournette is a generational type player and all indications are the staff is going to take some of the complexity out of the offense.

We LSU fans were thoroughly warned by Tennessee fans what we were getting with Chavis before he was even handed the keys to his office. 3rd and Chavis was the term they used. A bend but don't break defense... well, his defense broke us many, many games in the 4th. Not too mention we lost our nasty streak on the dd-line. I say good riddance. The Notre Dame game was further proof of where he was mentally...Gone.

Steele's d got shredded badly in a bowl game a couple years back so people run with that narrative. As of now, the fact Steele hustles his arse off on the recruiting trail (his first job as a Tiger) I say he is an upgrade. This fall we can debate his X and O approach, but as of now he was given a job to do (recruit talent)and he has worked hard and established trust. Upgrade.

We're gonna hand off to LF 75% of the time?

no, we're going to take much of the pre-snap read/adjustment responsibilities away from the QB, much like Bama did with Sims last year.

It's all about the $$$$$. If football revenues drop significantly due to team performance, Les will be out.

Or, he could slug A'Shawn Robinson in the throat.

November will be a killer with the lack of proven DL depth. LSU could easily go 0-4 to close out the regular season. KB better have an AA season
