It's not a nursery school. It's a privilege and an honor to play in Tiger Stadium - on scholarship - free. Auditioning every game for potential multi-million dollar paydays in the NFL, courtesy LSU. Stop coddling these guys. It's on them to act respectable. That's part of the game. These guys need to learn about consequences for their own behavior - like everybody else.

All this talk about "grown men" , "the real world", and "earning" this or that....

Think about what kind of "grown man" you are.... You are upset at others who are upset at your type who think it's fair game to criticize and bash a 20 year old college student because of a football game and an alma mater.

Think about that.

What kind of "grown man" are you again?

Not going onto social media and taking sarcastic, and sometimes downright personal shots at a college student, isn't coddling. It's called sanity, and being a "grown up".

The kind that is respectfully asking you to post where I have bashed a player. Your inability is speaking volumes for my argument though. Keep it up, kiddo!

I agree but it's part of what you sign on to.

I agree...it is. The question is...WHY is it that way? I mean...it doesn't HAVE to be that way, right?

What is it about being a fan that makes someone feel that they need to tear a guy apart personally when they don't perform up to the standards of the fan?

Again...these young men CHOSE LSU. They wanted to be here. This isn't the NFL where they were drafted and have no choice in the matter. Hell...there's an entire industry surrounding the luring of these young men to the university and we have a page dedicated to watching it happen in real time.Part of that, presumably, was because of the fan support they thought they'd get. and what happens once they do? Fans start sharpening the knives in case they don;t perform well enough...

What would be so hard about simply taking a breath and realizing that what these guys are doing is simply playing a game for our entertainment. It's not life or death...at least for us. For them, it's actually far more important, if they intend to play professionally that is. But for us, even if we've been surrounded by this for decades, it's still ONLY a past time.

The minute this whole thing becomes so important that you or anyone else feels the need to shred a playing personally for not providing the level of entertainment you think you deserve might be the very minute it's time to step back and reassess things.

That's my opinion of course...the mileage of others may vary.

What good ever comes from Twitter? Why would anyone want it? Especially if you're in the public eye. They don't need Twitter nor do they need to read it. It's stupid.

Well said, man. Maybe Chicken can set up a Safe Space page for the easily offended on here. Some of these folks would have a rude awakening if they ever tried to join the military.....ya know, because words hurt.

I agree it's got to be one of the biggest headaches for coaches, but it ain't going away that's for sure. I don't do social media other than the Rant. Don't tweet and don't have a facebook account and won't.

Well said. I dont get down with bashing performance. People make mistakes. Alot of people hold performance to this unattainable value and then ridicule when a player doesn't hit that mark.

I think the Rant is split on extra-curricular actions however. What are your thoughts on that?

Its not appropriate to completely bash players and tell them to off themselves when they play bad (though it's never ok to tell them to off themselves). It's another thing to criticize them if they make a poor public statement or gesture, including things they say on Twitter or anything wrong they do while a camera is on them. Any player who shows poor judgement and has a very public tweet that makes them look really bad deserves criticism

Screw you and them if they can't take a little criticism
this isn't "a little criticism".

The lack of compassion many in our fan base has for our players is astonishing. I thought Louisiana was better than this.

Yeeeaahhh, I'm sure you aren't one of the soldiers who get upset when someone who wasn't in the military starts criticizing and taking shots at soldiers.

You mean like Cecil Collins level behavior or simply poor choices like leaving the field early this past weekend?

Either way, and again...maybe it's simply a generational thing, but I'd never dream of going onto Twitter and directly calling anyone out, about anything. Just not really my thing. but I guess if that's the way people tend to roll these days, then I guess depending upon the behavior it might be something others would both do and expect. Dunno...I'm kind of out of my lane there.

The thing I tend to see too often for my tastes is suddenly making or finding a personal issue when the real issue is performance. For most of the time Jefferson was here, no one had said a bad thing about him as a person. There weren't stories coming about about him being a bad guy...just that after having cheered when Lee got hurt and Jefferson had to come in (that happened back in 2008, remember?) Jefferson's play eventually eroded and Lee was back in favor. So when the fight happened, people suddenly got to call him a thug when what they really wanted was him simply not to be under center anymore, as if it was his call all along and not Miles'. Dude was eviscerated on here and social media and then fans acted hurt that he was pissy with them. I mean, yeah...I'd bet.

But that's getting off track. All I'm really saying is that if we're really fans, then I've never seen the point of bashing anyone in the open. Ever. You want the coach to change? Write directly to the AD...encourage others to do so. But grousing in public only tarnishes the program. Hell...we learned way back in 2002 when the "fake" Saban speech hit the internet about BAMA that things typed on line CAN make a huge impact to the program. That was 14 years ago...it's much worse now.

Read that back to yourself. That makes zero sense, and it's not surprising you got two up votes for it.

The messed up part of that tweet is it was a black guy who tweeted it. None of the other tweets were racist in any way. Just criticized his performance, which has been shite.

Will be interesting to see the difference in reaction if Etling continues to struggle as well. This past week has been past ridiculous.

If by "struggle" you mean receivers dropping balls left and right then yea. When did Etling struggle otherwise?
