There is a distinct difference between being coddled and being compassionate. Telling Harris it is okay to handle things the way he has would be coddling him. Telling Harris the way he handled things is inappropriate but he has our support to pull through would be compassionate. Too many people fail to understand the difference and opt for being a complete dick to make sure no one thinks they're coddling him.

Hey I have been arguing the other side on this discussion but would like to say that I would never speak hatred towards our players at LSU. I just think that if fans have the want to express themselves or talk about players then, they can. It doesn't mean they won't look like a bunch of fricktards but oh well

Is it pussification of America? Or is it making an intelligent decision that will improve your quality of life down the road?

I bet you're one of those MFers that goes to Ryan's buffet every Wednesday and wears out the buffet lines, amirite?

ETA: my shitty grammar

No, you are just a pussy.

I'm not going to coddle you, man. You just didn't have the chest to play football, and instead of being a leader, you are just one part of the anonymous masses. A pussy

AHH I understand now. If you do not play football in America, you are a pussy. If you do play football in America, you are not a pussy. Because, you know, football is the only sport in America that is not pussification of America.

Yeeeaahhh, I'm sure you aren't one of the soldiers who get upset when someone who wasn't in the military starts criticizing and taking shots at soldiers.

Actually Im a grown arse man that doesnt let words have that much power over me. As a veteran, I owe no one anything. If people want to bad mouth the military, that is their right. I may not agree but I fought for their rights to say what they want. It wont change the fact that they are a moron.

The fact that someone is a public figure does not, at least in my mind, make them fair game for ANYTHING said to them. All it takes is a few looks at celebrities reading Tweets about them to realize some people are completely unhinged and their newfound ability to talk directly to famous people is not exactly some great thing.

When it comes to college athletes, I really don't understand it. Again, these guys CHOSE our program. The one we try our best through donations and various fund raising to shine up so as to attract them. They become OURS and part of the extended family of Tigers...at least they do to me. They are not disposable based on their level of play or even if they act immaturely. The idea that this needs to be explained to fans doesn't make any sense to me, honestly. I mean...I get that part of being a fan is being emotionally tied to the program and it's a passionate affair...but that's no excuse for losing one's shite and tearing a player apart. If you love the program and you want these guys to be part of the family, when things are rough is when you double down...not toss them out.

While I agree to not bash a player directly, these players are also receiving free rides that total up to thousands and thousands of dollars. If they want to go to the NFL (ages 20-21 depending on enrollment) they'll have much bigger issues than a disgruntled fan base. Part of the problem with our system is that we like to coddle folks and when they don't get their way, they act like little turds. Some players are very deserving of this negative treatment. You can fight a war at 17, you can tolerate some angry fans ranting.

Exactly, you're a star qb at one of the top teams in the country, so criticism will come with the territory, it should be expected. You're a man at 18, so start acting like one. If you can't take it, then GTFO bc you'll never be able to handle the NFL.

I think that's what I and others are saying. I'm not for anyone shutting that down officially...though I do openly question this forum's coddling of that type of behavior...but I think it ought to be shouted down by fellow fans who simply have no tolerance for that kind of thing.

I understand that not everyone agrees with me...I'm just not sure why that is if you love the program and want it to succeed. i can;t think if one positive for the program that can come with ranting either on this forum about a player's performance or about them personally or directly to them on social media. It won't benefit their performance, it won't change the decision of a coach to play them, it won't endear our fan base to recruits...all it seems to do is alienate the individual player, potentially cool the level of interest of recruits and generally cast a pall of negativism over the program.

In the end, it seems a very selfish act that enables the fan to vomit emotionally, and then walk away without taking any responsibility for the outcome. And then, when the program is viewed negatively, they act as if it happened all on it's own.

Yes and those people are probably hiding some serious insecurities and fear of failure causing them to strike out anonymously. They are wrong for what they do IMO there is no debating it. I just think Brandon is an emotional young man over time he will learn to deal with those emotions and put them in context. It certainly doesn't make him a bad person. To be a good leader you have to have control of you emotions to think clearly, and he hasn't learned that yet. That is constructive criticism that is not what most people who live in the twitter world give.

you're putting WAY too much importance on what fans say. Every team has whack-job fans that take things too far. No rational person judges an entire fan base based on these few people.

If a program is viewed negatively, 99% of it is the product on the field, the coaching staff, and, to a lesser extent, the administration. Not the fans.
