Les Miles receives $549,000 pay raise, contract extension
“Les Miles is one of the most successful coaches in America and he has the LSU program in position to compete for championships each and every year in the most dominant football conference in the country,” Joe Alleva, vice chancellor and director of athletics said Friday afternoon. “He recruits at an elite level, his players graduate and he is a respected member of the community. We are proud he will lead the LSU football program for the long-term future.” LINK

Alleva/LSU administration has shown zero backbone over the last two weeks and has handled the entire situation poorly. It is far more stubborn/ignorant to be pro-Alleva than to be pro-Les Miles.

If it blows up in his face??? He will simply be fired but the University will be out $15-$20 million. This amount of money based on him caving and extending a contract so Miles wouldn't go where...oh yea Arkansas! In addition, University Staff and Faculty aren't being retained because the school can't afford to keep them so the education of the STUDENT/Athlete suffers while boosters stand by only committing their cash toward the removing of a coach. PR nightmare and the whole country is looking. You wouldn't pay a coach $6 million to coach here but you will pay him $20 million to not??? If you can't acknowledge that the timing is wrong then you are an idiot.

Alleva also brought Jones in and turned around the basketball program immensely.
The book is still open on the Jones hire. He's a great recruiter but his gameday abilities are very much in question.

You're a day late, and a dollar short. Like it or not, hiring a coach to succeed Miles will be Alleva's defining moment. If he gets the right guy he's a hero. If he doesn't then he probably will lose his job, but that will be long after Miles is gone.

You think the University is ponying up the money???
The rest of your post is equally idiotic but not worth addressing. Congrats

I think this is all taking place over Alleva's head. He may be the figure head as the AD, but boosters and certain BOS people are pulling the strings. I suspect Jimmy Sexton may be selling them a large bill of goods with the sole purpose of getting his client, Jimbo Fisher, and himself handsomely rewarded without Jimbo making a job change.
One way or the other we'll know something relatively soon. Either LSU shrewdly struck while the iron was hot to get Miles' replacement. Or, a bunch of petulant influential fans let their emotions overload their brains and in the process really screwed up LSU's football program.

Jones still has a ways to go imo to be considered great, so yeah there is a buzz around the program, he also hired the guy that totally killed it.
Jones had been coaching at North Texas. It's not like he was some hot commodity. I don't think he needed much convincing from Alleva to take the Job. He doesn't have to replace a national title winning coach.

Alleva responsible for the debacle against OM? The penalties right out of the gate?

Duke football outside of Spurrier was always bad until Cutcliffe. Alleva hired Cutcliffe before he left by the way.
Yes and he hired two other coaches prior to Cutcliffe who were failures. Also, technically Cutcliffe was a failure, fired from Ole Miss. He did have winning seasons at Old Miss and recruited and coached Eli Manning. However he was still fired after his one losing season.

Did Alleva hire Custcliffe at Ole Miss? No he hired him at Duke and they have had the most success since Spurrier. You cannot compare hiring a coach at Duke over hiring a coach at LSU. The pool is much larger and waaaay more talented. Beth Torina was a great hire by Alleva after the Bama coach left him high and dry. Johnny Jones is a great hire. He just brought in the best player in the country to LSU to play BASKETBALL. I trust Alleva 100% to make a good hire and i'm not even one that is calling for Les to be fired, but i can understand arguments on both sides of the coin.
