I guess my point is, whose a more consistent coach?

Who won more games at LSU?

I wonder how consistent he'd be if he were coaching an SEC team. The school you coach at and the conference you compete in matter very much.

I'm not a big, "SEC rules all. If you don't play in the SEC you suck," guy. That being said, I 100% agree with the above statement. The only thing I would throw in though is the amount of talent in the South. Look at Saban's record at Michigan State. A bit harder to get the talent in the Big 10 that is readily available in the South. Then again, Tressel is the only big dog in a top 5 talent rich state and is also able to recruit nationally.

Not sure. But where he is, the man's teams are pretty consistent for better or worse.

I agree

Three 13 win seasons, two 9 win seasons and an 8 win season.

But, nobody has specifically defined what "consistent" is.

Gerry Dinardo got the Cox contract.

And where he coaches and which conference that school competes in are major factors in his success. To football people, that matters.

Did you bother to consider any other coaches in the SEC? If not, why not?

Tressell.

Just throwing this out there, but in the same time frame (since 2000), Tressell has lost to 7 unranked teams, is 6-5 in bowl games, and is 1-4 versus the SEC.

I don't know if he's more consistent than Saban.

I'll give you Meyer, but he isn't coaching anymore.

Two of those SEC losses were in championship games. Not going to add it up, but I would guess Saban's teams have lost to more than 7 unranked teams since 2000. You have two in UAB and ULM. That's pretty shitty.

Again, not knocking Saban but before crowning him the best coach in the game I need to see what his team can do next year as well. I don't think 3 losses by bama were out of line this year, though.

What I was basically getting at was that I wonder if he'd be as consistent at a place like UGA or UF as he has been at OSU.

I mean, like someone posted in this thread already, 4 SEC West teams finished in the top 12 this year. That's tough competition. The Big 10 may not be weak but it's not as tough as the SEC year in and year out. The SEC is the heavyweight conference of college football.

If that is what someone defines as consistent, then Miles has been pretty consistent.

Yep, but you can only judge a coach by what he has done. You don't know what he would have done in the SEC.

Miles, Saban and Richt. No one else is even in the picture. Richt's teams have bombed the last two years.

Like I said, 100% agree with you. I just hate the people that think the SEC is the only conference that plays football. "Mett won't be able to play in the SEC. It's NFLesque." That type shite gets old personally, especially after Cam stepped right in and dominated.

The bar for SEC QB's isn't that high, really.

What I'm getting at is it would be better to think about coaches who compete in the same conference as Bama. It's always easy to go outside of the SEC to find somebody more consistent than SEC coaches because those conferences aren't as tough.

It's like every year when the coaches change board is up, everyone thinks the best OC's are in conferences outside the SEC. What they don't understand is there is always going to be coaches in other leagues who stand out outside of the SEC because those conferences don't play defense like we do.
