Casanova then Cannon.

Your comparison stats for PP7 and TM7 isn't even comparable they mostly played 2 different positions! PP7 took away his whole side of the field, no team ever went at him. There was plenty of times teams threw at TM7. Now TM7 was a bad man not taking anything from him, I loved him when he was able to free lance their was nobody with his type of skill set, but comparing stats u can't because no one ever threw at PP7, he wasn't asked to come up in blitz coverage and if I'm not mistaken he didn't return punts or kicks as much as TM7. TM7 was still a bad MOTHER FRICKER!

In the past 10 years, I don't think we have a player who can claim to be in the top 5 best players ever for LSU. Tyrann is the only guy close. He was a difference maker unlike any I've ever seen.

2nd Greatest LSU Football Player Ever quote: lsupride87 Sorry bro you can't call Cannon the GOAT when he played during segregation. The best players from his era weren't allowed on the field.
Sorry bro but they were and your need to start this when it's been so talked over is not relevant. You judge them in the age they played Cannon was great. With nutrition and weight training of these days he would be great against anyone. If you compare his times run at track competitions to current athletes you will see he was fast, he was big, and strong. They played both ways in those days as well so the game was different in that regard. The need to preface everything with racial aspects is dumb and truth told it gets old watching behavior of players on the field and some retro even if arguably less athletic brings a whole lot more in terms of enjoying a game as a fan.

Hans down Fred Miller.....Look at his LSU and NFL honors. he may be the best considering a DT or DE can't win the Heisman.

2nd Greatest LSU Football Player Ever

Billy Cannon: 6'1" 210 LBS 10.60 100M dash in 1955
Adrian Peterson: 6'1" 217 lbs 10.33 100m dash
...and Cannon returned kicks, returned punts, punted, kicked and played defense.
He scored touchdowns by: Rushing, passing, receiving, punt return, kick return, interception return.
He also recorded scores by: kicking for an extra point and rushing for 2 point conversion.
Cannon is likely only a handful of players in the 50's and 60's who could play today. He was big and fast and full of attitude.

TM7 was a better defensive player than PP7, and it really isn't close. Peterson was a great cover corner, but he didn't cause and swing games like the honey badger.
PP7 personally saved several games in 2010 with INTs and punt returns. However, it is hard to measure how great he was as he played a far different role than TM7. Teams simply did not throw his way. When they did... They often paid dearly.

he would be a stud today, and this thread has made me do some digging, Gaynell could hang today too, IMO

Lsu2006 why do you have your count twisted in a knot over Hester. He clearly stated his point that if Hester could be a 1000 yard back in the SEC it could easily be extrapolated that the faster and all around more athletically gifted Cannon would more than likely do damage similarly to what he did back in the 50's and 60's.

Hester.
love the young man and what he did for us, but he would be the jock strap holder for Cannon

Casanova. Guy could have been an AA at 3 or 4 different positions. The Doc was a gifted athlete and humble to boot.
