Who won the Heisman over #2 Stovall? Think Stovall got shafted and was really the best player in the country that year

It was Terry Baker, the lefthander who played QB for Oregon. I was a kid, but even I was thinking, "Who?"

TM7 needed to play another year to even try to match what PP7 did here. Don't let the sensationalism of TM7 (one of my all-time faves to watch) overshadow the greatest college CB of all time.

I don't prescribe to a Heisman = GOAT.
Is Peyton Manning the best player ever at TN ?
Is Desmond Howard better than Tom Brady ?
Walter Payton ?
Jerry Rice ?

The best players at LSU, IMO, would include:
Casanova - only 3 time All America
K Faulk - 4557 rushing yards. SEC 2nd most all time behind Herschel Walker.
Dalton Hilliard - who can argue against Dalton ?
Charles Alexander - 9 SEC recoreds, 27 LSU records.
Eric Andolsek - there's a reason our Leadership Award is named after him.

That's fine, but Cannon is unequivocally one of the 2-3 best players to ever play for LSU.

Yes.

He was at Michigan.

Walter Payton ?
Jerry Rice ?

Were both great at SWAC schools.

Bravo. Great post. Totally agree... (Maybe that's why I think it's so great...)

It's a travesty that Robinson isn't in Canton.

TM7 was a better defensive player than PP7, and it really isn't close. Peterson was a great cover corner, but he didn't cause and swing games like the honey badger.

14 turnovers in 2 seasons is just insane. He's the best defensive player in LSU history imo.

Turnovers change games, and he was the best at it

PP7 in 3 years (39 games with 30 starts)

Tackles - 135
Tackles for loss - 3 for 12 yards
Sacks - 0
Passes Broken Up - 22
Ints - 7
Forced Fumbles - 1
Fumbles Recovered - 1
Touchdowns - 4 (2 punt returns, 1 block FG, 1 int)

TM7 in 2 years (26 games with 14 starts):

Tackles - 133
Tackles for loss - 16 for 90 yards
Sacks - 6
Passes Broken Up - 16
Ints - 4
Forced Fumbles - 11
Fumbles Recovered - 8 for 52 yards
Touchdowns - 6(2 punt returns, 2 fumble recoveries)

Kevin Faulk was sensational. No question. He was also very lucky that Cecil Collins suffered a broken leg in his fourth game. Kevin wasn't starting when the Diesel was healthy. Kevin wouldn't have had the stats he accumulated if Cecil had continued to be the starter. Was Cecil the 2nd best football player ever at LSU? Of course not. Could he have been? Maybe, but probably not. He was a hand grenade waiting to explode, and he did. Kevin was a product of the exceptional coaching of Bill Belichek He had a long career in the NFL
as a third down back. He did not start. Jimmy Taylor, on the other hand, was the 2nd best back in the NFL to Jim Brown for years. But he was too many years ago for most of todays computer and TV addicted fans to have ever seen him. Too bad.

He was only slightly behind Cannon as a running back in IMHO, but his defense was years better

I would remind that Ole Miss was seconds from taking the NC away in '59. At the goal line, time for one play. The hole opened & who steped in there and stopped him? Cannon
