This is exactly how Miles got in trouble. Everyone defended him whenever a 3 star recruit committed to LSU. "Who knows talent better.....Miles or Rivals?" I saw that question posted 1000 times if I saw it once. Before you knew it, LSU was trying to block Alabama's 5 start defensive linemen with 3 star offensive linemen. Dammit.....go out and recruit. These 3 stars will come to LSU later as fall back recruits. In the meantime try and get players who can help you beat Alabama.....not lose to them for the umpteenth time.

Bama has 2 **** and 2 *** as of right now.

We always complain about how they get a 3 star and he becomes a 5. It's all about getting on these kids early, and making LSU be a factor. I'm seeing kids being recruited by LSU that are serious football players. They all have a certain come get some attitude.

You sound knowledgeable enough to know that 60% of these will be 4* by the end of the summer so not sure of the point of your post given that understanding.

2003 title was because of our outstanding 2001 class. This is common knowledge for anyone that follows lsu.

Yet, LSU has more players playing in the NFL than any other school. I doubt the NFL gives a shite about the players
"Star Rating" on Rivals or anywhere else.

We all know the one thing holding LSU back was QB. Every program ends up missing on guys there. Other than that, Les and the crew were pretty damn good at recruiting and evaluating other positions. And actually extending LSUs brand into states we usually don't grab players from.

Good thing that some of those guys are still on staff. Shouldn't see too much drop off from the change.

Jack Anderson and Cesar Ruiz

Anderson was graded as a Guard..

247 composite had 3-4 4 star centers this past year.. Ruiz being #1

The scouting services grade heavy on camps this early and many kids dont attend tons of camps after sophomore year because they are not ready , cost is prohibitive, or they havent matured physically yet..

They are just know getting through junior tape as well.. IT takes time but coaches are usually ahead on evaluations at this point because they look for more raw talent on a regional basis, they have coaches contacting them and the staff required..

Whats the difference between a 3 star and 4 star you can either play college football or you can't. it's about getting kids that fit your system and coaching them up how many all conference players all american's HOF'ers were 2 and 3 star recruits

Being right 50% of the time is being right 50% of the time which is far from being outstanding, my nubian brother.

I trust coaches' evaluation over the recruiting "experts" that never played a down or guys that play skin flute in the band.

This. Exactly. They evaluate ability and how well they will translate in college ball. In January, Jacob Hester joked about how he was rated at 2-stars and brought the overall team ranking down.

Luke Kuechly and Jamie Collins were both 3-star's. I personally feel like Racey McMath is the 3-star sleeper of our 2017 class. His tape his unreal and he's got genuine, no bullshite 4.4 speed at 6'3 215lbs.

They call him megatron at Karr... The kid has a little training to get done but it's nothing he can't do. He can catch, is fast, strong as frick, can jump out the stadium, and isn't scared of anything. He admits that he has to learn running routes better and just becoming a complete WR but it will come natural to him. He's not a 3* lmfao.

This is what I'm talking about who cares if he's a 3* this guy will be one of the best WRs in the league very soon. Imagine a big Chark that's who McMath is. Scary stuff and give me a roster full of 3* like McMath sons. HTTDB

Undoubtedly Bamas major league talent is partly responsible for their success but I don't think it's the reason for their success.

wrong!

The top 10-15 programs in the country yearly aren't really separated that much by talent in the 2 deep, which is who plays the great majority of the games. Sure no one can match them man to man in the 85 but in the top 40 or so, yearly, 3-5 programs match them or better them in talent.

totally false

Saban does it better than anyone in the business and conforms those around him to his agenda and structure.

No he doesn't. Any coach worth his marbles could do what Saben does,or even more, if they had that to work with. His starters are man for man better than anyone else they play, but the talent of the depth is what really separates them. Every other coach recruits the players, Sabin selects the players.

Holy cow!!! Let the players get evaluated in camps before crying. Look at the offers these 3 star guys have.

yep, what they are rated right now doesn't really matter. If the coaches like them enough right now to offer them , then they are talented players

It's arbitrary. Does not matter. When we offer or sign a 3 star, I assume the staff found a kid that simply hasn't properly been evaluated. And I think that goes the same for most of the heavyweights. They simply have too much of the luxury of getting to hand pick from the very best talent to judge guys on an individual scale because of a star rating. They see a guy that can or cannot fill a role or can grow into a dominant player. I don't think they care about stars unless they have their own rating which would be their recruiting board. Think of how limited each spot is relative to how many players there are that could reasonably compete at the SEC level. Stars are for fans and subscriptions and kids with hats on a table.

Also, there have been numerous 3 stars on our national championship teams that were stars. Mo Claiborne was at one point a 3 star and Jacob Hester was a 2 or 3 star player. Honey badger was a 3 star before showing out at a Tennessee camp.

To compete for championships again LSU needed to upgrade at HC, OC, QB, and LOS.

I "think" they have accomplished the first 2 and are working towards the next 2.

There is reason for optimism.

3 star athletes often turn wind up on NFL rosters. Don't get caught up in the rating system. Mack Brown stock had a stock pile of 5 star guys and it don't take him where he wanted to go, possibly because those guys were overrated.
