re: Official LSU Softball Recruiting Thread: Commits & Targets
There are a two types of recruits I'm interested in seeing for LSU in the future. I've only been a consistent follower of LSU softball for 5 years (I am only 17), and I've never seen any left handed pitchers or Left handed power hitters on the roster, let alone the lineup. The closest I player I could think of as a lefty power hitter was Sandra Simmons, and she wasn't even considered a power threat. She only hit more than 5 home tins her senior year. And left handed pitching. Coach Torina has pretty much done everything right with pitching (I think we've been really spoiled with great pitching), and she has really preached having different types of pitchers. Walljasper/ Hoover combo is literally the perfect example of contrast. The fire and ice. However, I feel as if Coach Torina had any lefties to contrast the righties, it would make our pitching even greater than it already is. I personally think some lefties can have less talent then righties, but still have better stats just because of the unfamiliarity. So I'm really interested in hopefully seeing Emiley Kennedy in a LSU uniform and any other left handed pitchers or power hitters in the upcoming years.

re: Official LSU Softball Recruiting Thread: Commits & Targets
I wouldn't specifically define a power hitter as someone who only hits homeruns.

Doubles and triples and gap hitters can be power hitters as well.

I do notice a bit of a shift in recruiting. A lot more power, especially the 2019,2020,2021 classes.

2018 does have power as well, Georgia Clark is a pure power hitter, Tidwell is as well but could be more explosive with a few adjustments with her hitting mechanics. Stewart to me is much like Sandra Simmons, she can bunt, slap, swing away, but she love to drive the ball into the gaps. Cummins is a powerful hitter as well, nice arm but very powerful at the plate. So 2018 does have a few power hitters.

Wickersham, Stewart, Clark, and Cummins are the players to watch for the 2018 class to me.

As far as the 2021 class, Redoutey and Brandon both are lefty power hitters, legit ones.

re: Official LSU Softball Recruiting Thread: Commits & Targets
Guess I can get started for the 2018 class:

Savannah Stewart:

She is a lefty hitter is a slapper but does have power. She hit over .500 her junior season. She is very fast, someone who you would expect to bat in the top part of an order. She has a nickname "rocket". She loves to drive the balls into the gap but can blast one over the fence as well when she does swing away. I can see her taking Emily Griggs spot when she gets to LSU. Covers a lot of ground, has a good arm. She has made major improvements each season the last few years and has really blossomed as of late. Very nice bat speed, she is extremely smart and bats based off how the defense plays. She will drop a bunt if you play really far back but will smash it to the gaps if you play in. She had an OBP of over .500 at the So Cal invitational this summer which is extremely impressive considering their are a lot of top teams and talent there. Impressive summer though as she did extremely well against teams like Corona Angels, Bathbusters and So Cal teams. She went from not ranked to #43 in FloSoftball Top 100. Look for her to continue to develop more power her senior year

Georgia Clark:

By far the biggest hitter in this class. Extremely powerful, true slugger. RBI machine really when people are on base. Tends to be streaky at times with her hitting, specifically home runs. Last season she had 6 homeruns in the first 8 games last season. I have seen her play multiple times and she smashed home runs and extra base hits in all her games

LINK

Here is a clip of one of her homeruns. Really nice bat speed and has great mechanics, will be a great one for LSU. Extremely excited about her in particular, the sky is the limit with her. She is someone who can easily step in as a freshman and hit 10 + homeruns and rack up a lot of RBI's for sure. She is one of the best power hitters in the country. She is currently ranked #17 by FloSoftball. Will definitely be someone we will look too early offensively for the 2018 class in particular

re: Official LSU Softball Recruiting Thread: Commits & Targets
Raelin Chaffin and Sydney Osada as well as Emiley Kennedy are the pitchers who seem to be the major targets for the 2021 class.

Really wish we would have picked up Riley Blampied. We were her second choice unfortunately. Girl is a baller.

Hopefully LSU doesn't hit a drought like Alabama has with pitching. they've been overdue to sign an elite pitcher. not that their pitching is bad, but I just remember years back it seemed to be much more of a strength for them

I have faith Beth can bring in a duo like Walljasper and Hoover again

re: Official LSU Softball Recruiting Thread: Commits & Targets
I think once Gorsuch gets her confidence back and is mentally there, she will be a completely different player.

Lets see how Sunseri does in Beth's system. Beth just needs talent with good foundations, the sky is the limit.

Wickerhsam is the real deal. 2019 is the only question mark when it comes to pitchers. Morgan Smith is an elite prospect for 2020.

Another disappointment, 357. I believe you about her credentials so I wonder what happened?

Well we can look forward to the 2018 class and Clark who is listed as a catcher.

re: Official LSU Softball Recruiting Thread: Commits & Targets
Her social media still says she is an LSU Softball player, maybe it could be a mistake when they are editing stuff on the LSU website.

Would be extremely odd timing considering she was considered part of the final roster after the last roster update which was late this summer. They had already removed the people who had transferred and added the new players.

Either something happened within the last week or there must be a mistake. Extremely weird as classes started today as well. Not once have I heard her going to transfer.

re: Official LSU Softball Recruiting Thread: Commits & Targets
Danieca Coffey and Emari Frazier both looked great in the Select 30 camp.

Emari was very explosive and powerful, caught a lot of peoples attention. Considered one of the better hitters in the 2020 class. She will definitely be in the top 20 come the next update in a couple weeks.

Danieca was impressive as well. Has nice range defensively, good arm. Looked very solid at the plate as well. Her power is still developing but her versaility is definitely noticeable. She's been extremely impressive these last two summers. Look for her to make a jump in the next update which is all happening within the next couple of weeks.

New rankings for the 2020 class and a new class ranking will be updated
New rankings will be updated in OP once posted

Heard there will be some officials for the 2019 and 2021 class sometime in mid to late September

re: Official LSU Softball Recruiting Thread: Commits & Targets
Was told earlier today that she is no longer on the team

There has been zero comments from anyone from the softball program.

Shame to lose a solid player, I really thought she would do some great things here.

There isn't any official word on where she is heading, I imagine she would transfer somewhere.

Best of luck Cunningham! Wish you the best in the future

And that's the way it should be. If the player wants to announce that, it's her choice. The only thing that should come from the softball staff is a formal announcement, if anything at all. Until then, her reasons are none of our business.

Not being critical of you at all.

BIG NEWS in the SEC

Clint is retiring/stepping down at Auburn

I don't see Auburn being the same program it is now, the SEC just got much easier with his retirement. Looks like a lot of Auburn commits are starting to look else where. LSU was in the mix for many so watch out over the next few months

Also LSU picked up another commitment from Laney Roos, a pitcher/UTL player for the 2020 class. Lefty power hitter as well

re: Official LSU Softball Recruiting Thread: Commits & Targets
Also as for the USA Elite Select 30, the All American Teams were announced, the LSU commits all looked great

Wickersham, Tidwell made first team for the 2018/2019 class

Frazier and Coffey made first team for the 2020 class

Bright future ahead for this program

3 transfers per year at this rate, now a kid up and quits the program. I'd hold on of the "bright future" predictions. The immediate "small" picture looks fine. The macro picture looks like there are real issues that need to be addressed with in the program. These issues have been overshadowed by the best talent this program has ever seen. That talent is not here anymore.
