If Smart is as good as Randy was before injury we are in for something special.

Smart is going to be a great player for us but Randy Livingston was a (the?) top player coming out of high school. He was compared to Jason Kidd who was a special college player and had a solid NBA career. It's really a shame Livingston got injured. He still bounced around the NBA for several years post-injury.
I'd like to think Smart would be close to the level Livingston would have been had he never been injured but my gut says Smart's a little under that. We'll never know though because we're comparing Smart to a hypothetical - a Randy Livingston in college that was never injured.
I am thrilled to have Smart and I know he will develop well under Wade. I fully expect him to do well in college and be a solid NBA guard one day.

He's a top 50 all time player, 5 time all NBA first team, & 10 time all star who played 19 seasons and is a sure fire hall of famer when he's eligible for the ballot next year. His pro career was substantially better than his college career, since he learned how to shoot.

Ok, "all star" NBA player. Livingston was a "journeyman" NBA player post-injury. He probably would have been a "solid" NBA player if no injury, maybe even an "All-Star". He probably would not have been an "all-time great" like MJ, Bird, Magic, or LeBron. Smart is still a promising, 6'4" PG. If he works hard he should one day be a "solid" NBA player.

No kidding. Would be awesome to get another top commit. This one really shocked the hell outta me, I felt he would go out of state. It's amazing what Wade has done so far.

Randy Livingston shared national player of the year honors with Kidd, then AGAIN with Rasheed Wallace the following year, so there's a good chance he would have been every bit as good. I think it was Dale Brown who made a comment to the effect that one day Livingston would be one of those guys referred to by using one name (e.g., if you say Michael or Magic or Larry, everyone knows who you are talking about). Pre-injury, of course.
Looking forward to watching Wade's group take the floor. My son will be at LSU in another year and he's a huge basketball fan, so I'm glad he'll have a front row seat to LSU's return to greatness on the court.

I have heard coach k at duke say recently on his xm radio show that Livingston is still the best high school player he's ever seen. His injury problems are a big factor in Coach Brown's end of career flameout.

Yep, I had to play against him several times in high school. We were in the same district, but if Newman played in a tournament or had a game on our off day, me and the other guys on our team would travel to go watch him play.
