Bluechip, I don't know where you're getting your information from, but it's wrong.

Your son is a human highlight reel. He not only plays tough, he actually looks like he knows his assignment on each play. Sure hope that he is a Tiger fan. Would love to see him in the purple and gold in the future. Tell him to keep up his grades. But honestly, I can tell that you are the type of dad who has that covered already. Thanks for posting.

@wildman--first off, you know what's best for your kid, not the rest of these guys.
I played d-1 d-line and o-line--big white guy and thought I was a defensive player, but really belonged on the offensive side of the ball.

1. jump rope like crazy. Players can get stronger, gain weight, learn technique, but NOTHING beats QUICK FEET.
2. explosive lifts are most important--thrusts, cleans, and then bench press (even though it's the most measured lift). Give me a guy who can power clean 335 over a guy who can bench 425 any day of the week.
3. Explain to your son that to truly be a great one, you have to play every play like it's the last one he'll ever play. Play with ferocious tenacity.
4. Take care of his classroom work.

Best of luck, and if I can help with anything, find me on here sometime.

Thanks JoseVargasTX. I don't let some of these morons bother me. Some people only have negative things to say. And I'd be willing to bet the ones with the most to say were the kids on the playground that never got picked. Never played not to mentioned coached sports, but now they have all the answers after a few Bud Lites! Smh!

It's really just a bunch of diehards wanting Garret here at home at lsu, he's in the backyard now and doesn't need to go far to be a part of a top 5 program in the country...that's all wildman, no one is trying to offend you it your son we just truly believe there aren't many better opportunities around the country for Garret and know that he will have a wonderful career regardless of where he attends college, we just want him to walk across the street and continue his career here in BR

I just read all this shite and some people have way too much free time on their hands! Wildman77 NEVER said his son would not go to LSU. What he said was LSU doesn't always offer every player available, and his son was open to listen to all schools, which is the right thing to do. I watched his highlight and the kid is head and shoulders better than a lot of the players in 4a/5a right now, even as a Soph. Wildman77, I commend you for keeping your cool thru all of this bullshite. I would have told them to go eat shite a longtime ago! Tell your kid to keep doing his thing. I will be following him this coming season. Good Luck!

I honestly wish you had as much reading comprehension abilities as your son has talent.

I never once said one negative thing about you or your son. I even wished him/you well. Gave you several . You made an obviously erroneous comment about football HS divisions and I just told you that it was untrue. You call it, "picking apart". I call it, "calling bullshite" on someone.

I said, if your kid is good enough, it won't matter what division he is in, he'll get offers. Plenty examples of that. A different poster commented that he would like to see him in the 4/A & 5/A ranks to face tougher competition each week, and that is a comment you will hear from scouts/recruiters at any level. I said you keep bringing your son to camps is the right thing to do, as he'll have the opportunity to showcase his talent against some of the premier talents in the area.

I'm not attacking U-High or your son. As I've said, I have a direct interest in the school and had no intention of offending anybody, nor did I think I had. I think you absolutely have your son at the right school and headed in the right direction, but I never questioned that.

I'll offer you one more , and hopefully we can leave it at that.

And how do you know BRFootball Fan ?

He is correct when he said that 4A/5A are more talented teams than the lower classifications on the whole. Anybody that knows anything about Louisiana High School football knows this to be true. JS

For a Soph in High School at any size or in any position to bench 280 lbs is actually very, very, very impressive. When he gets into a college weight room, he will explode in power/hang cleans, squat, bench, etc. Before you know it, he'll be doing 350, 550 and 400 in these lifts. ANd there is so much more than lifting. Enjoy high school ball, always work on footwork, get him to camps at different sized schools and the NUC, Scout, ESPN/Nike variety. But in the back of your mind, picture what he will be like in about 4 years, with a redshirt year and freshman year under his belt...and still 3 years of eligibility left. Also, I suggest have a professional video company specializing in football, make a video of just junior highlights and send to recruiters...he will look so much better each year and after junior year is when recruiting kicks in...that spring, summer and the senior fall. Then you can always add some senior highlights too. Tell him "hard every play," because you will probably get asked for an "entire game" video too...there will be some bad plays, but scouts expect that...they want to see how you respond afterward. I like a dad who promotes his son...you freakin raised him and you know him better than anyone. Use the camp traveling as fun time, good bonding time, too!

No, I'm not. I know Victor's dad, Joey. I use to work with Joey a few years ago. Beside, those Brumfields are a few shades lighter than me...he's white and I'm black!
