He is a LSU fan. But, LSU is NOT a done deal. Whatever school presents him with the best opportunity and is the best fit for him, that's where he will choose to attend. No school is out of the question at this point

Follow up question to that:

Did you sign up at all the different school sites or just Tigerdroppings? Nothing worse than a state kid picking another school over LSU (especially a kid from B.R.), that is why I am asking. Good Luck to him.

LaBorn. So basically you feel that ALL athletes coming out of our state should attend LSU? What If LSU is not the right fit for that particular athlete? And it is a fact too that LSU doesn't offer a lot of the athletes coming from this state. They simply don't have room or a need for all of them. Like I stated, he will choose the best opportunity and the best fit when the time comes. If that is or isn't LSU, then so be it.

No need to be condescending. I am asking because you are on a LSU recruiting board trying to get your son some publicity.

Is exactly what you should do but again, you are on a LSU recruiting baord. What else do you expect for us to say besides that he should come to LSU? Come on man. I am all about doing the right thing but I along with others who are LSU people through and through will never fully understand how an instate kid goes out of state when we have one of the premier football programs in all the world in our state.

Again good luck to him, I think it is great that you are getting him some pub and I hope to see him in P&G one day.

in the Baton Rouge area the disparity is nowhere close to what it was 10-15 years ago.

But it's still there.

quote:

The comment of "I'd like to see how he stacks up against 5a competition" Has been said about any recruit from lower classification schools and it has no substance. People said the same thing about Chad Jones, Todd Kinchen, Big Baby, Steven Ridley, and tons of others.

And it will always will be considered when viewing game film. Why is it difficult to understand that coaches would like to see them face opponents of a higher caliber? NFL scouts ponder the same questions when reviewing C-USA/Sunbelt/WAC/etc. players. Any HS coach in the state would tell you that he would face more taleneted d-lines in the 5A class than 2A. You're being naive if you believe otherwise.

quote:

Tell me what DE in this area would be tougher competition for Garrett to prove himself against than the one he practices against every day.

Not saying he doesn't get to face a few quality guys. It's more about seeing him face as many quality guys as possible. This is why he's doing the right thing by going to camps. He gets to matchup against some of the more quality guys that he might otherwise not face.

Most are not articulate in the least. So, it's pointless to attend the larger schools, be a beast at your chosen sport, get 25 D1 offers, but end up at a JUCO or community college because you can't qualify academically! Sorry, I'd choose U-High any day for my son over some of the 4a/5a schools!
Of course I would choose U-High for my child as well, but that wasn't the point. The point was made that he would like to see him matchup against a higher quality opponnent each week. That is all. In 4A/5A it is more likely that he would do so. Never once said talented players weren't in smaller schools, nor does it even belong in this discussion of HS enrollement and how it correlates with talent levels.

I get what Afro is saying.......TYPICALLY, you will find better competition at the 4A/5A levels mostly due to numbers alone.

It's not ALWAYS the case....there are exceptions and GB is lucky to have another great athlete to go up against in Williams every day.

If GB is good enough, the size of the school will not make a difference in the end. Hopefully he gets bigger and stronger and becomes a Tiger in the end. If that doesn't happen.....he has a promising future regardless. You have every reason to be a proud Dad Wild!

Very impressive highlights for a sophomore. I think moving forward he should work on his upper body strength, and I don't mean for bench press stats, but for his punch. His pass set punch is a little soft, but that is really being picky especially for how young he is. If he can get a more violent punch and like another poster said, improve some flexibility, your kid will play big time D-1. Again very impressive for a sophomore.

His film shows otherwise. He's a very mean run blocker but as an Oline coach, I was giving you some pointers about the very few things I would improve on if he was on my line. He could impove his punch/extension based on his film, it's easier to show perfect technique at a combine, a lot harder in the 4th with pads. Not knocking your kid at all, best soph highlights I have seen from this state in a while.

Goodluck to him. There is nothing better than watching a dominant Oline. I will be helping out with a few combines/camps this summer around the state and if I see him I will definitely have to say hello and tell him to keep up the great work.

LSUomaha3. He doesn't mind. He knows I think the world of him. I'm the 1st to praise him when he does well, and I'm the 1st to get in his arse when he is messing up!!! He knows as well is I, that everyone has their opinion. I had not really realized just how fanatical some LSU fans can be. I am a sports fan. I like LSU, but I must admit I am not a die-hard. I will admit when LSU is not the best team in the competition. Some on here don't have that ability. I've also seen that some on here look to pick apart what you say, simply to have something to argue about. I tell him to keep working hard in the classroom first, and on the football field. If someone is really trying to help you, graciously accept. If they are just trying to pass judgement, dismiss them and keep it moving. He has become a pretty good judge of peoples character and intentions.

You're from BR and you didn't realize this? Mighty big rock you live under.
Welcome to SEC football(take a visit to Birmingham).

And for the record, I wasn't picking apart your statement. I wished you and your son well, but this board is no different than real life. If people are making erroneous statments, then they deserve to be called out on them. (ex. 4A/5A aren't generally more talented rosters than 2A). It showed your ignorance and bias on the subject, and I understand it as you said you aren't a die hard fan.

But, back to the original subject, your kid shows promise and I hope he continues to progress and get stronger. The next few years will be exciting for you and him if he does.

You're a trip.

" I will admit when LSU is not the best team in the competition. "

But you can't admit when you're wrong about your son's lack of opposing competition. Welcome to the world of being a football fan. It's already put the blinders on you and you can't even see it.

Oh and since you think of yourself as a real smart fella and you think I'm picking on you and your son's school. I'm not. I figure I should let you know that I have family that has educated your son and have children attending there as well Just pointing out truths. It's ok to have big boy conversation without blinders on. Again

You're still here aren't you Seems like we're in the same boat.
Maybe I'll see you in therapy.
