I may have to go hardcore into this. I've gone from 202 to as low as 163.5 doing keto and 500-1000 calorie deficit depending on the day with several weeks of maintenance to keep my sanity thrown in over the past 4 months. I was at 166 this morning, but really want/need to lose another 3-4 inches off my waist.

Get in the gym and focus on hypertrophy.

I started a lifting program at the beginning of April. I've gained a lot more strength than I would have guessed by now. But you know how we are, we want to reach our goals now, not later.

Seems like a great idea. Are there any cliff notes to reading this whole book? I just don't have time to read it, but would like to try it out.

Round 2 of Category 1 starts today. I gained about 3lbs of water over the weekend.

i am doing 6 days to shred as I leave saturday until vacation. this 3 gallons of water a day blows balls as does the fat fast that goes with it. Dropping water like crazy though.

Lost all my weight I gained from the 3 day refeed. What a glorious 3 days though.

mostly water. You will shed it quickly.

I've been reading through this thread and am coming away impressed with how well this thing has worked out so far for folks...
I am definitely interested in doing this, but am not very savvy with things like this. I am 5'6" tall and weigh right at 200 lbs. Had a surgery back in January on my knee (LCL reconstruction; year recovery time) that keeps me from running or lifting really for a good while.
Will this work for me? If so, what landmarks should I hit? I think I fall in Cat 2's high end, but am not 100% sure. I REALLY need to lose fat, and I have a decent amount of muscle underneath since I hit protein really hard before my surgery to help fight against atrophy since I was given 6 weeks bed rest to start recovery.
I think that for me to feel comfortable again, 175 lbs would be great, but I would love to get down to 160. High school weight for me was 135, and I gained 10 lbs in 6.5 weeks at basic training at which point I was in the best shape I have been in my life.
I'm not sure I'd like to get that low, but hopefully I can drop some serious fat if you feel this would help.
to the thread 7's, bang-up job!

Have you been cleared to do upper body work like pull ups, push ups, and band work?
This diet would be good for you. It isn't recommended that you lift a lot during this diet anyway. It's just too taxing.
Depending on your activity level, the amount of protein will be adjusted.

I have. Just nothing that transitions to full-body status. (i.e no burpees, mountain climbers, etc.)
I am slowly starting a return to running now (started last week), so that doesn't really count as exercise since I only burn like 50-80 calories a session due to quick fatigue and lack of sustained form/ability.

Have you done your bodyfat test? I couldn't imagine you being in category 3 though.

I have not. What does that entail? (I haven't read the book yet. I'll be digging into it over the next couple days though.) Do I need to measure wrist/forearm/etc.?
I did a quick BMI calculator thing and found I am at a 33 there. That sucked to see. Motivaion, though.
ETA: Using the charts in Appendix 1, I am at 32 BMI and roughly 29% body fat... High end Cat II, as I thought.

BMI is a terrible indicator of body composition in athletes. I'm in the obese category and I'm around 12% bodyfat
