I can barely do bench press anymore, because of severe pain in my elbows. I've been reading about it, and I see a lot of suggestions to use fish oil pills. I try stretching or warming up with light weight, and the pain never goes away. Has anyone tried the fish oil?

Tumeric helps fight inflammation. Also, if you aren’t already doing so, cut back on the carbs.

I didn't do a ton for me.

Aside from seeing a doctor about elbow pain, have you worked on upper body mobility? That, specifically shoulders, worjed wonders for me, better than any supplement.

Then, maybe look into form too. Do your elbows bother on other lifts? Poor form on bench can torque shoulders and elbows.

I had never had any pain on any other lifts, even doing dumbbell bench press. It's just been a pain that usually comes and goes. But now it is constant, even trying to do dumbbell bench.

Does it hurt while pressing vertically (Military, overhead presses) or during pulling movements?

One of the reasons I always throw out things like shoulder mobility in this situation is that there's no downside. It costs zilch, it takes maybe 2-3 min a workout and if it doesn't cure the elbow pain, you still have better shoulder mobility.

Having your shoulders locked up will force your arms into tough places with horizontal pressing, and that can strain the elbows. The repetitive straing can lead to what you're discussing.

Horizontal pressing is usually the first thing to go bc it has the greatest shoulder mobility demand, which is why I asked about vertical pressing and pulling.

I'd start with some shoulder mobility. If you can press with it, it might be the angle and mobility.

This is what helps me:

Fwiw, I also take turmeric. It has good science behind it. Get it with black pepper for bioavailability. I don't do fish oils due to that bioavailability concern.

NPP or Deca if you want to go that route or Osteo Bi-Flex works really well over time.

Tumeric and fish oil are nothing compared to Equine MSM. Take as directed for a horse. I am not shitting you and I am very serious, it works and works well. Here is a link: I get the 10 lb LINK

I use LINK

It's helped a lot, along with resting my knee. My patellar tendinitis is mostly gone in a few weeks.

eta I take fish oil daily, as well.

Drop the damn bench then or change to close grip, reverse grip or incline.

Unless you compete, there isn't shite special about bench.

Also what is hurting? Is it the endons in the elbow or muscle? If so look at the star rehab protocol. If it's clicking like it's cartilage, well then drop the lift for sure.

Also work on your mobility.

Do you squat? If so, low bar or high bar? If low bar, it is probably your shoulder being torqued. I had this exact problem. I would only get severe elbow pain after the day I squatted.

Loosen your chest, bicep, forearm, front shoulders, lats, and upper back.

Also, put an arch in your bench. Do direct chest work with flyes.

All I know is since I use krill oil, turmeric, probiotics, and avoiding grains, starches, and processed sugar my inflammation and joint pain is minimal to none

Plus weighted pushups. Just the angle change flat bench doesn't allow can make a massive difference.

Even if he wants to prioritize bench, taking a few weeks to work on mobility while he swaps flat bench for incline/pushups will keep you strong on bench while you resolve the issue.

I'm like 95% sure it's related to shoulder mobility if he used to be ok and now has pain in flat bench and not in vertical pressing. That's like a classic compensation pattern, shifting the load to elbows to deal with poor mobility in the next joint up.

I did have a compound fracture to my clavicle when I was 17. It probably has something to do with it.
