It's a toss-up between the first Diablo and the first Starcraft for me. Although those never really produced SERIOUS online gaming addiction, but they were fun. There was (and still is) a shitty, shitty game by the name of Conquer Online. I played that MMO for 4 or 5 years, if I had to guesstimate, and it was a seriously bad addiction. As in, turning down your social life to play this game. It was actually a pretty darn good F2P game for a couple of years. Every weekend there was a "guild war" where every guild on the server competed to win the guild area, and the guild that won got some pretty big bonuses out of it. I would sit in that guild war area for 72 hours and get MAYBE.. 15 hours of sleep. I was addicted to the PVP, and I was really freaking good at it. As in people on other servers had heard of me and I never even played on that server, and they would challenge me to duels. I had an e-rep . (LINK me pwning people ) But eventually the company's desire for money kind of overwhelmed the game to where if you weren't dropping big IRL money on in-game items, you weren't going to be competitive. So, I got bored and frustrated with that and then got hooked on WoW for another 3 or 4 years.. and now I am hooked on LoL and DayZ, but I've learned to control the addiction.

Ultima Online in the Fall of 1997. What a great game despite its flaws. If a game brings some of that back they'll have a winner.

Perhaps the market has too many games to get the server population that made UO awesome. Maybe it was lightning in a bottle. No idea, but it was a blast to make furniture

My buddy "teddy" (not the one that posted above, Hulkk knows who I'm talking about) played UO all the time. I loved watching them go after the crackin (spelling?)

Might mean "Kracken."

What I liked was there was no "End Game," no I got to conquer this and its over, until they make something else for me to conquer, then I'm bored again stuff. You just had the world and did whatever. Also, if you absolutely have to have end game content, well, I think the map lent itself to being redone over and over without spreading out the player base.

Nostalgia is a bitch.

Easily Tribes.

Which is where the idea Bungie got for Halo came from.

Our dorm was all one giant network, so we could plug into the lan in our dorm and system link in Halo 1 with anyone else in the entire building.

It made for some pretty awesome competition between floors.

ours was too. I was mostly a single-player gamer before I went to college and picked it up then.

Counterstrike, unreal tournament, and quake 3 were huge.

I wasn't really an addict until FFXI though.

I still remember when you and I took our custom-built PCs to school one day and we sat in one class (Mrs. Romar was her name?) all day and showed off our PCs and played games

ET LAN parties.. So many awesome quotes came from those parties. "Cuz you's a bitch.. and I'm ain't".. "The butt gets raped at midnight".. "NO LOGAN, YOU CAN'T SNIPE, STOP BEING A fig"
