Skyrim 2016 Thread - First Timer

Fallout 4 inspired me to grab Skyrim. I played it briefly back in 2011 but my rig wasn't good enough and I let it pass me by somehow.
I had to break from FO4 because it sucked me in too much and I needed a break of gameplay, so I picked Skyrim (I know, bad idea lol).
I got the legendary edition and started out a build as a Imperial pure caster. Just beat the first dragon and got the shout, but I headed all the way to the College of Winderhold to learn more magic.
I want to get better robes and magic spells, etc. Am I headed in the right direction?
It's amazing how great this game held up after 5 years. One of the GOAT I'm quickly realizing.

Spent 200 hours playing two separate times....never did the main quest line.

Yes. For a caster it's definitely best to just head on up to Winterhold early on. Be sure to stop off at the shrine of Azura along the way, and do that quest. Just make sure you don't give the star back to Azura. Give it to the elf dude so you can get a much more powerful version of the star.
shite, it might be time for me to re-install...

I just followed the road all the way to Winterhold, I already made it to the college before quitting last night, should I turn back around or just do Azura after I do whatever I do here?

I recently started it up with star wars mod "the way of the force". Ton of fun if you like star wars.

My favorite build that I did in Skyrim was a Destruction mage wearing heavy armor. Once I had enchanting and blacksmithing leveled up, I was nearly impossible to kill and just ran around owning everything with unlimited spellcasting.
It was SUPER OP though, but stupid fun to just run around blasting anything and everything.

Definitely complete the College of Winterhold story line if you want to be a badass mage. Just talking about this makes me want to fire it back up. Damnit, I do not have time.....

It's a must have item, but it would be a very difficult quest at a low level. I would play a little bit, and worry about that black star when you hit 15 or so.

First ever playthrough and I'm going full destruction mage with light armor (robes)
I'm debating on which weapon to use as a compliment. I have some fire staff but that seems useless bc of the fire spells. I'm rocking an imperial sword for just those times where I run out of magicka.

Conjuration and Destruction together is a deadly combo, and a pretty fun play. I would find yourself a good tank like follower for the early levels. There's a guy at the inn in Windhelm that you can hire for like 500 septums.
Conjuring a sword, mace, axe, etc is a low level spell and it levels 2 abilities at once.

I singlehandedly crashed the Skyrim iron dagger market. It still hasn't recovered.

This release on a Friday and it is the only game I was sitting at my computer stocked up on snacks and drinks and played through the night. I think I ended up with 220 hours on my play through.

where do I learn conjuring from? I'm guessing at the college?

I need to get a PC so I can experience Skyrim w/ mods for the first time.

I need to play it again, last time I tried to play it I messed up and used the console command to go to the room with every item in the game in it and that kills the fun after you do that.

There is no "right" direction (although as a pure caster, I would have headed to Winterhold before even entering Whiterun).
You will have to either develop your alchemy and enchanting (probably not as much armor crafting for a pure caster) if you are particular about your equipment - and you don't want to overlevel doing that so that you can't handle routine combat encounters.
But, if you're not picky, all that can wait until you're much higher level (they're easy skills to level later and catch up) - you can pick up most of your equipment needs by completing quests and making regular merchant "circuits" to see who has what.

Just play the game. Let it all happen organically. The best way to ruin a Bethesda game is to start looking up items, quests, grinding, etc.
