Pretty interesting read with quotes from developers. I still don't know why many of them do what they do.

Game developers complaining about what others think? Shocking.

it’s not uncommon to hear about people putting in way over 40 hours of work a week just to get a game shipped on time
Amazing. How do they manage?

More than 40 hours?! Oh lawdy lawdy!
Big whoop. I work a minimum of 60 hrs a week and I'm fine.

I'm sure the job sucks. Lots of jobs perceived as fun are actually worse than average. I have no doubt development teams are taken advantage of because they're supposed to have a passion for video games. But I have no sympathy. If they hate the long hours, their skills are transferable. The company I work for has a division that designs and creates video game-like simulations for anti-terrorism training.
Ubisoft people shouldn't be allowed to speak.
quote:
“If we [listened] to the public and the general feedback [from players] Assassin’s Creed would have [had] dragons and monsters…and nobody would die in Game of Thrones,” Patrice Désilets, creator of Assassin’s Creed, joked in an email.
Ubisoft people shouldn't be allowed to speak.

the article phrased this poorly but it has been said many times that they often sleep at work. That is no way to live, especially once you have a family.

DLC doesn't bother me like it does others. When done right, it's harmless.

They should have left that part out

I'm talking about day 1 DLC, it's bullshite to carve out a piece of the game at release and make you pay extra.

Yeah. Maybe 40 hours in two days, especially when approaching launch.

You see, he chose his words very wisely here. I have no doubt Ubisoft puts a lot of effort into their games. Long hours, all that jazz. They just don't put thought into their games.

That still doesn't bother me if it is pointless like most of it is. They even said that some of it is done after the game is done but before it is ready to go public.

I think they just don't put time in their games. I'm going to guess they work hard and think hard about it, but the pressures from up top are to get the games out.

It's one thing to complain about the time and effort it takes to make a good AAA title, but when the game is littered with incomplete/cut missions, bugs, microtransactions, Day 1 DLC, and $5.00 skins that should be free unlockables, I have no sympathy for them. Metal Gear Solid 5 is a prime example.
Ubisoft has no room to talk about "lazy developers". AC4, Unity, Rogue, Watch Dogs, Far Cry 3 and 4 are essentially the exact same game with same features, same gameplay, same mechanics, and in some cases the exact same artifacts in each game. L-A-Z-Y.
I get that it has to be a bitch to make a game that will be well accepted. That's why I don't complain about small bugs or some weird mechanic that doesn't work just right. But when they nickle and dime the shite out of their customers, they lose the right to gripe when the game does not deliver. See Watch Dogs and Unity.
FYI, I noticed I didn't see any complaints from CD Projekt Red.

Cyberpunk 2077 is supposed to be much larger than Witcher 3, I cannot wait for this game.

Like I said, I'm not bothered when done right. Arkham Knight was a disaster of DLC and a very average game on top of it.

I don't think it's lazy. I think they have leadership issues. I believe there are a lot of people working hard there still.

Ubisoft was only quoted once if I recall. After that it was just a mix of people and many developers were quoted, some anonymous.

This is the big thing these days. People seem to think bigger is always better but I'm not so sure.

Have you ever read comment sections on game articles? It's a fricking disaster of stupid comments like the ones mentioned.
Posted on 10/22/15 at 5:43 pm to Mr Gardoki
They chose to work in a notoriously hostile environment, one in which long hours are often required and sometimes being laid off in return for the fruits of their labor. If they're unhappy, then they should find work that better utilizes their talents. I really don't think most level-headed gamers really believed anything in that condescending list, but I'm glad they can got it off their chest. 'Believe it or not, we do work hard.' And so do many of the customers that buy your games, so they can afford not only the $60 code but the micro transactions, downloadable characters, in-game insurance and skins locked behind paywalls. So frick right off with that shite.

You say it like they are complaining and going off on gamers . They were asked about misconceptions so some spoke. I'm sure all of us here could do the same for our jobs if asked. That doesn't mean you are complaining. None of the quotes listed even said they didn't like their job.
