This article might as well be about teenage girls and their plight of fitting in

Pretty interesting read with quotes from developers. I still don't know why many of them do what they do.
More like 10 excuses game developers make for releasing unfinished garbage.
These people are starting to complain more than teachers.
Like no shite your job is hard. A lot of people have hard jobs. That's not an excuse to churn out poor work. And if you're working at a company that regularly churns out poor quality games to make a quick buck, then you get to roll with the criticisms.
Woa! Breaking news! Good graphics don't alone make a game good? Revolutionary industry changing fricking shite right here fellas. I think I figured this out when I was 10.

I never see them complaining. They are rarely heard from.

Sorry but working on day 1 DLC while your game is still broken is still stupid.

Firing up the witcher to support a studio not full of bitches

Just the company that turns a bunch of normal features in games into 'free dlc' and marketing bullshite.

No one disagrees with that.

They could charge 60 for dlc that renders most of the original game useless

I know what you think you are making fun of, but you're not even accurate

quote:It is almost always garbage. Simple fact. If it comes out Day 1, then clearly it was ripped from the original game.
DLC doesn't bother me like it does others. When done right, it's harmless.
If it come 4 months down the road, it is worthless because in many cases it is low level crap filler that they pulled from the original game but held to release later so they wouldn't get roasted for asking for 2 fees for one game.
Even if it is 100% generated after the original release, it is almost always garbage because the main story is done, so the additional content feels hollow. Gee, I saved the world / universe from annihilation. Some pesky warlord is trying to raid a farm. I should help them.
For DLC to be worth it, you need to propel the story along as a bridge from the original to the next game. The content needs to be high level but then you run the risk of it being absurd that you just killed a God and now the pesky warlord attacking the farm is somehow stronger than the God.
I hate DLC. It sucks. maybe not 100% of the time but damn near 99.9%

I agree that it's usually useless. That's why I don't care about it

But that's literally the only questionable thing CDPR did. Their support has been impeccable..so much so that I honestly wouldn't expect other publishers to do the same.

Who can't argue with free stuff, if it's worthless then who cares?
Posted on 10/22/15 at 9:43 pm to DoUrden
Gardoki cares. And he's going to cry about it.
Posted on 10/23/15 at 12:08 am to DoUrden
I don't really have a problem with CDPR's DLC... because, yeah, it's free. It's just funny because they received a lot of undeserved praise for what amounts to an extremely transparent marketing stunt. We're in an era where gamers are beyond annoyed with being nickel and dimed for DLC that should've been part of the game anyway, and CDPR seized an opportunity to exploit that. But rightfully, CDPR should be praised for their post-release support and, obviously, the fact that their game is fricking incredible. I just hope it hasn't gone to their head to the point that Cyberpunk 2077 capitalizes on hype rather than quality.
The public opinion of DLC is lose-lose. If it's substantive content, people cry "pay to win." If it's worthless content being sold, people cry "lazy/greedy publishers." And if publishers do what they've wanted to do in the first place--i.e. adjust the price of games based on inflation since we've been paying the same for AAA titles for literally 20+ years--well, we know how well that would go over.
I guess I can argue both sides... On one hand, gamers are just the worst. On the other hand, developers know this and know the lifestyle that comes along with their career choice, and there are plenty of opportunities to bring those skills to normal 9-to-5 companies that facilitate a healthy work/life balance.

Only misconception I see is those devs in the article believing people actually have those misconceptions. Self-serving article to be sure.
