Ok, dumb question probably.

I've got a bottle of 4 roses small batch. How do I know what year it is from? I don't see it on the bottle anywhere. Does it even matter? :notabigbourbondrinker:

There's 4 Roses Small Batch and then there's 4 Roses Small Batch Limited Edition. The limited edition ones are usually the ones with the year listed on them.

The WL Weller 12 is some good juice for the price. Have to be a fan of wheated bourbon, though.

How does a wheated bourbon compare to ETL or Blantons?

Maker's Mark is probably the most common wheated bourbon. Pappy Van Winkle is also wheated. The Weller line is probably one of the best bets just to try and see if you like wheated. Some say the wheated ones are a little softer and sweeter as opposed to the rye ones which can be a bit spicier (as evidenced by high rye content ones like 4 Roses).

Thanks

I like Makers, so I've got that going for me

I do prefer the spicier though. Four roses single barrel is as good as I've had

No problem. You have to figure out your likes and dislikes according to your palate which may change over time. Best thing to do is just keep trying and refining. At least you can have a lot of fun along the way!

I'm much more of a rye person myself. I keep some Weller 12 around but that's about it.

I'm the exact same way. I have a Weller 12 in my cabinet and a bottle of Larceny for my next tasting.

Its kind of nice not being desperate to find Pappy.

At dinner at Houmas House last night, the bartender and I were talking and he said the owners of Buffalo Trace were there on Thursday. They left some Pappy bottles but they can't be opened till after a photo shoot. He was told that there will be a decent sized release in November of Pappy this year...

I guess I need to start asking. I had come to the realization I might never see a bottle in the wild again.
