As fall rolls around and we start seeing cooler temps and new releases things will pick up. This thread slows down every summer.
Very true. It's too hot for much of the fire water and there aren't many new releases. I switch to more rum over the summer.

I am starting to try more rum. I am in the Dominican right now and tried one called Burmudez. I thought it was quite good. I think it is aged 12 years. You have any Dominican rum you can recommend?
Also the sand and water is incredible here.

See if you see any Black Rum. I think it is made in Punta Cana. We were there recently and had some of that and I found it pretty good.

Cool idea for spent bottles

Yea, I saw some Black Rum Punta Cana today. I will give it a try thanks. Brugal and Barcelo seem to be pretty popular here also.

That is a cool idea. Not too keen on how it is mounted though but still a good idea.

I was in Nashville this week for a few days on business and took a couple of hours to drive down to the Dickel distillery.
A interesting tour capped off by some tasting.
I like Dickel 12 and believe it to be as good as any high dollar bourbon or Tennessee whiskey.
I did buy this:
Absolutely great. If you can find this--splurge. It will soon be gone. It is a perfect sipping whiskey.

So I'm going to be in Texas next week. What whiskeys (anything but scotch, really) are recommended that are distributed in Texas that I would not be able to find in Louisiana? TIA.

that you will be able to easily find? I personally think Larceny is a solid bottle in the $20 range. I can't think of anything else off the top of my head. Always worth checking for Weller Antique

I'll be in Houston. We are planning to hit up Specs and D&Q (beer run). I'll check out Larceny and see what else can be found.

Hey P....I enjoyed 1835. It is made up in Lewisville, TX. It's specs #1 seller. Garrison Bros bourbons have received some good reviews, but haven't tried any yet. Have fun. And if you are looking for a bourbon bar, Julep has a good selection. It's a Top 75 bourbon bar in nation. You can check out the menu online.

This and the 21 yr Rocky Mountain Rye are probably the only High West products I'd buy again.
