Paneed(sp?) ling over noodles topped with lump crab and some kind of lemon butter sauce. It was at Tunks which was a really shocker. I've ordered ling/cobia/lemonfish every time I've seen it on a specials menu since that day.

Some random Indian restaurant in Exeter, England. We were there to bury my mother in law's ashes. My husband's cousin, who lives in London, was with us. It was a bank holiday, and it was really quiet. There's a university there, but there was literally nobody out. We walked along the main road back towards our B&B after leaving a pub and ended up at what seemed to be the only restaurant open. We were the only ones there. What followed was course after course of the tastiest, spiciest, Indian food I've ever tasted. I can't even remember what all we had. The owners of the place just kept bringing us stuff and it was all so delicious.

Guy Savoy in Paris. We ate there twice. The food was off the charts good. One time our main course was a veal roast for two, another time it was Wagou beef. The truffled mushroom soup is to die for. So were the truffled mashed potatoes. Shaved truffles were everywhere. Another time we had salmon soup where the salmon was "cooked" tableside on a block of dry ice then placed in a bowl of saffron broth. . They bring you waves and waves of desserts that are all incredible. My best meal on this side of the pond was the Chef's Table at Commander's Palace.

We had the best steak and lobster we've ever had in our lives!
Not sure which one but a hurricane destroyed it.

Did French Laundry this past summer. Truly was the best combo of service, food, wine, etc ive ever experienced. Definitely a great bucket list item to conquer.

Would have been my answer prior to going to the place I named. That pork shank is out of this world good.

I moved to NOLA in 1980 and had a meal at LeRuths soon after that I've never forgotten. Many courses, all perfect . Every meal here seemed like a special occasion .

It doesn't have to be a 5 star restaurant, but it obviously could be. Maybe the experience or the circumstances were unique.
probably already posted, but bought 3 poboys at a nasty-arse gas station near gretna after my aunt's funeral a few years back (2 hamburger poboys for kids, one shrimp for papa) as we were heading back to florida.
when we finally got on the road and opened them they were the best damn sandwiches all 3 of us ever had in our lives. kids still talk about those hamburgers to this day.
i know gas stations in nola are known for good sandwiches but i couldn't believe how good these were.
eta honorable mention is when you FINALLY get through the 2-block line at the popeyes on carollton during mardi gras and sit down on the curb with hot fried chicken, red beans and a biscuit its a religious experience.

Some tiny restaurant in Vienna, Austria while on a work trip. Only about 3 people worked in the whole place with about 5 tables. It was a husband and wife that owned the place. She was the chef and he was the waiter.

Nothing fancy but probably 20 or so years ago a seafood platter down in Gran Isle. Don't remember the name of the place, they change names often.
Still think about that meal. Haven't had one close to that since and I love me a seafood platter.

Le Bernardin. Felt like an experience just walking thru the door. Everything was impeccable, the service was so good they made us feel like we were important. Food went beyond expectations to a delicious, unique meal.
But I've also fallen in love with a crunch wrap supreme in a late night Taco Bell run too.

My grandmother once fixed me a bag lunch while I was visiting her. I ate it returning the 300 or so miles to New Orleans.
Fried chicken--she fried in lard, field peas, cornbread, quart of tea, one biscuit left from breakfast and a fried apple pie.
I would eat beans and rice for the rest of my life if I could have that meal again.

Probably "Golden View" in Florence. Florentine beef and fantastic wine with an outstanding view of the Arno river.
