What is a national scale, top-tier steakhouse you wish your city (or state) had?

I get that many on here can and do cook a great steak and would never pay the premium prices that top-tier steakhouses charge. However, some will, and many of us often go for the experience, ambience, and socialization with others.

For me, I wish we had a Smith & Wollensky. New Orleans used to have one, before Katrina, but it's now occupied by Walk-on's. The next closest, in Houston, near Westheimer, I believe closed down.

I think part of what I like about S&W is I had very positive and memorable experiences there with the people I was with, plus the food was very good (Cajun Ribeye, Hash Browns, Mac & Cheese, etc.). I see they now offer a Hangar steak, which is one of my favorite, and hard to find cuts of beef.

It appears today to be one of the smaller top-tier steakhouse chains, when compared to The Capital Grille, Del Frisco's, Fleming's, Ruth's Chris, etc., but I believe just as tasty.

I like them so much, I even have their cookbook.

Good choice. Is the closest in Austin?

In Charlotte, we have the usual suspects: Del Frisco's, Ruth's Chris, Morton's, BLT Steak, STK Steakhouse, Flemings, The Palm, Sullivan's Capital Grille, Steak48, and Oak Steakhouse. I'm thinking we're good here.

That's a lot of top-tier steakhouses. I find Morton's to be very good, but probably one of the highest priced too.

I read years ago that Del Friscos actually started in Gretna. Does anyone know the backstory?

I really like 801 Chophouse. I’ve eaten at the one in Denver, Des Moines, and KC and it was great every time.

Not sure you could call it national, but Jeff Ruby’s in Nashville (based in Cincinnati) is always fantastic.

Mastro's steakhouse would be a good addition.

Was ordering at the one in Des Moines and asked the waiter which sides he recommended. He said definitely the creamed corn. I figured we're in Iowa so makes sense. Lordy, what a fantastic dish!

I don't remember the steak (which was good I'm sure) but I remember the corn years later.

I actually order their pork chop through mail order. It's fantastic, even at home.

I could eat me some riblets right now. Do they still sell them?

I really enjoy The Palm whenever I’m in Houston. I know it’s a chain but the steaks and service are always top notch. Wish we had one in NOLA or BR.
