What did you make the gravy with?

2 lbs smoked pork sausage (from Teets) cut up about 1"-2".
Put in pot and brown and keep grease that the sausage puts out.
Chop 1 large onion and place in pot with sausage.
Stir over medium-high heat till onions are rendered. Should be getting a light brown gravy. Add 2 cups water and about 6oz tomato sauce.
Cover and stir until tender.
Add water or chicken broth if needed.
