Used Walmart grocery pickup for the first time yesterday. They didn’t have the 32oz bag of cheese we wanted so they gave us a 5lb bag instead for the same price. Difference In price was 10 dollars! Lol. They also gave us a 1.75 can of organic olives to substitute for for the .75 can of olives they didn’t have.

Not complaining just curious as to how long this business plan is going to last as more people decide to use the service.

I was in and out in less than 10 minutes and will use them again.

On balance, the worlds largest retailer can well afford to give you free cheese and olives. $514 billion in revenue....the cheese lagniappe has zero impact on its profitability, even multiplied many, many times.

They have also given me the 10# bag of 6.00 bird seed instead of the 20# bag of 6.00 bird seed
A friend ordered a “2” candle for their kids birthday cake, they substituted a 3 instead of a box of candles

It just depends on the person pulling, the girl told me that dog treats were out & she didn’t think I’d want the much bigger bag, I would have loved it for the same price

It is a great service & I make sure to fill out the survey since that is how they get bonuses since they don’t get tips

Around holidays they hand out goodie bags too!

I haven't used pickup too often, but I always uncheck the substitutions box. Maybe I shouldn't do that.

My mother had groceries delivered by Walmart yesterday. They included two small Walmart reusable bags both filled with envelopes of ranch dip, some sort of colored ink pens, samples of women's gummy vitamins, cans of sparkling water and a few other things. I've never gotten any of that sort of thing. '

I tip them.

Been using the Walmart Pickup since the Corona started.
Seems like I get an email about any substitution question. I always offer a tip and they always refuse saying they’re not allowed to accept.
May never go back inside, it’s just so easy.

Rouse employees on the other hand always accept a tip.

When you do Walmart pickup, multiple employees put your order together. So when you tip, the one person who loaded your car gets it but nobody else who worked on your order. That's why they aren't supposed to accept tips and the surveys are so important.

Happened to us with a block of colby jack a few months ago. I think I had put either a couple of 8 oz blocks, or a 1 lb block. I got a 4 lb block. Immediately cut it in half and froze half of it. Took a few weeks to go through 2 lbs, then thawed the other half and there's a tiny bit left now.

Good to know. At another store that I use more often, the person who picks your groceries also brings them to your car. The same person also calls if the store doesn't have items on your list to let you know and to see if you want to sub with something else. This store just doesn't always have everything I need, so I sub with Walmart for the other items, when necessary.

I uncheck & go through all items checking the random stuff that doesn’t matter
Stuff I’m brand specific on like mayo & ketchup stays unchecked, I’d rather do without than get something I won’t use

Got a 20oz bag of stevia instead of the 9.7oz bag. That's a lot of damn stevia! I rarely turn back their substitutions, but the last time I ordered a whole chicken, they subbed it for a pack of drumsticks.

I've been using the free Walmart pickup for about 7 months. Sometimes the substitutions work, sometime not. I've gotten name brand stuff when they were out of generic. I've also been disappointed by some subs.

But the service is FREE.

My wife signed up with the Shipt service, which will do Rouses, Target (not groceries though), Winn Dixie, Langenstien's, Petco, CVS, and Office Depot and maybe others.

They charge $14 per month. The picker will communicate with you while shopping, even sending photos of alternative products if necessary. You can specify that you want large produce if you want.

I think the prices when ordering online may be slightly higher than in the store and you should leave a tip after the picker leaves you order at your doorstep.

The substitutions usually work out in our favor. For this week’s delivery though, I ordered three of the crystal light flavor squirt bottles for the kids. They substituted it all with a caffeinated version. Definitely not giving that to the kids and glad I saw it before they used it.

The delivery is legit. I subscribed to the unlimited deliveries for $100 per year. I do at least one delivery per week and have started to have some delivered to my parents’ house so they don’t have to venture out to the grocery stores.

I use pickup weekly and used to do that with certain items I am picky about, but now I allow subs on all. They email you with the subs, and you can decline them. It's better to do that than not get your item because they only had it in a different size.

And you often get the bonuses like folks are describing. I once ordered a small jar of Pace and they substituted a huge milk jug size with a handle. Had similar experiences with everything from rice to shrimp boil.

You can also order some non-grocery items. I have included a blow dryer, ant poison, and a thermos bottle in recent pickup orders.

Two complaints: My eggs are often crunched, even when they hand them to me. I think they get smashed in those flats they use to cart the groceries. And the produce they give me is often pathetic. I have gone on the app and asked (and immediately received) a refund for wilted cilantro and brown broccoli.

I haven't set foot inside, or even in the parking lot, in several months.

That's one of the biggest drawbacks for me.

If I'm buying cucumbers by the piece, I'm going to grab the biggest logs I can find. With bananas, sometimes I'll buy some that are close to ripe, and then some that are green. That way, I'll have them ripe when I'm ready to eat them.

Another example, If I'm making stuffed peppers, I want the ones that are box-shaped, not irregular. That's an advantage to Shipt - you can communicate these requests to your shopper.

Do you work for Shipt man? you’re throwing it in the conversation like it’s a product placement ad in The Truman Show

Maybe we'll give them another shot. We tried them a few years ago, but not since. First time I used them, the substitutions were a disaster. Might have just been the local store not being used to it, but it seemed half of the items were substituted. They made substitutions like red for green enchilada sauce, and chicken for beef on the dog's food. At the end of the day, there was a bunch of stuff we really didn't want for the same price. We wound up returning the entire order, item for item, at the service desk. We placed a few orders after that without checking the allow substitutions box, but stopped using it because none of the orders were fully completed, and we just had to walk in and pick a different brand or size to get what we needed.

If it worked for us the way folks are posting in here, we would have used it in a heartbeat.

What do you mean not groceries for Target?

My friend does Shipt and keeps telling me to get it. But why wouldn’t they get groceries from Target? I don’t need it for other stuff.
