well the subject of the thread is about taking pics of food at a restaurant

go to any restaurant review site like Yelp, Urbanspoon, etc and there will be plenty of reviews by regular people with pics attached

those people took those pics at the restaurant...

and I'm grateful for those people because I like seeing the food while reading a review

I don't have a problem with people taking pics of their food. Personally I have only done it a few times when it was very something special or unique that many people haven't had. I did recently take a pic of kobe beef I had at Kanno.

I guess I don't have a place on here because I've never read a restaurant review in my life.

I guess

if I'm traveling somewhere, I read restaurant reviews for weeks leading up to the trip

I'll have every meal and what restaurant planned out well in advance. I want to go to the best places that city has to offer, I don't want to waste a meal by just going to some random restaurant without any knowledge of it beforehand.

But maybe thats just me

You realize my point was not to chastise, but it's odd that a frequent user of this board would have avoided every restaurant review posted here. That requires an constant act of evasion which is interesting.

I meant the sites he was suggesting. Yes, I do read the reviews on here occasionally.

So if I would turn the flash on my phone off thus giving you nothing to be mad about, would you still be a prick about it?

Eta. I don't have poop fragments on my phone

Actually, there is a bigger possibility that you do than you may realize.

This was covered on the radio show I listen to recently. If you have ever gone to a store and used a shopping cart and didn't go straight for the Lysol isle you may have poop on your phone. This is info from one list. Other lists have keyboards and computer mouses high on the list of germiest.

"6. Grocery Carts: The handles of almost two-thirds of the shopping carts tested in a 2007 study at the University of Arizona were contaminated with fecal bacteria. In fact, the bacterial counts of the carts exceeded those of the average public restroom. To protect yourself: Swab the handle with a disinfectant wipe before grabbing hold (stores are starting to provide them, so look around for a dispenser)."

Germiest things you touch every day

The shopping cart deal was shocking to me because I use the "List Ease" app on my phone for all of my shopping lists. So I am constantly touching the shopping cart handle and my phone.

This is from another list:
"grocery cart handles are among the dirtiest things you're likely to touch in public. Think about it: diapered babies sit in the cart, blood from uncooked poultry drips into it, and a constant stream of new germs get added to the mix as shopper after shopper rolls the cart around the store. If your grocer offers wipes, use one for the cart handle and consider giving the basket a quick wipe down, too. If not, wash your hands after you get home and take care to clean produce thoroughly before eating it, especially if it was placed directly into your cart."

YUCK !!!!

Not me, I think I have gained weight just from looking at the pictures on this board.

Kidding - about not liking the pictures.
Not kidding - about gaining weight since I have discovered this board.

I'm usually embarrassed to take a pic at a busy restaurant but that's something internal I need to fix. No fricks given if someone wants to take a pic of their food.

Same. I've made the mistake of not planning ahead, and it is a big mistake to make.

I use the hell out of OpenTable, so I have reservations in place before ever even packing for a trip. Heck, I use OpenTable everywhere. I can be in New Orleans ready for dinner within the hour and make a reservation just to skip the wait. Do the same in BR, but so few restaurants use OpenTable.

I planned on going to Luke one night, and didn't make a reservation for whatever reason (this was like 5 years ago). They were on a 45 minute wait, which I should have waited on, but for some reason we chose to move on. Not knowing the city as well back then, and I don't even think I had a smart phone, we ended up at some crap tourist bullshite place. Lesson learned. Always plan ahead.

Seriously. I have people ask me about restaurants in New Orleans frequently. I send them my little reviews with the pics and they appreciate it as I do when I see reviews with pics on this board. I love when restaurants have food pics on their websites, as well.

I've never done it for attention. I do it to remind me what I had, what it looked like and what we thought about our meals as well as to share it with friends who are interested in cooking and restaurants as I am. If you're a bird watcher, you're going to take pics of birds you see and share them with your bird watching friends. It's a hobby. It has nothing to do with how much I spent, which sometimes, is nominal. A pic of a good poboy is just as interesting to me as a pic of an eclectic appetizer.

But, yeah, to each his or her own.
