I've done this maybe three times in my life (not counting when I was in Rome a few years ago). I sometimes wish I had if I'm going to post something about the meal on this board.

BUT, I do know a lot of people who are really annoyed when someone does it in a restaurant. Even at another table. I don't care one way or the other, but I'm wondering why so many people dislike it.

This is today's deep philosophical issue for discussion.

When I see it:

First thought: "what a dork"
Second thought: "what a douche I am for thinking that"

I don't want to hear your loud mouth while I'm eating, and I don't want to be distracted by flashes from you smart phone. Learn some manners, people....

If you don't like people taking pics of their food at a restaurant, don't eat at restaurants.

There's a lot more annoying things going on at restaurants than that.

yeah. taking pics of food is no big deal in my book. i'd rather that than the parents allowing their kids to run around in a classy restaurant.

I do it. Unless it's a really nice place. Even then I may take one or two. I really don't care what the next person thinks. I turn the shutter sound off and don't use a flash..

It's like the people at the blackjack table who tell me I hit wrong. I don't care about your winnings, I'm at the casino to put money in my pocket.

Do whatever makes you happy. Lord knows I've taken my fair share of beer pictures at bars.

I'm usually embarrassed to take a pic at a busy restaurant but that's something internal I need to fix. No fricks given if someone wants to take a pic of their food.

I really hate when you have that loud table in restaurants. The ones that seem to speak over each other and you hear their entire conversation the entire time. They are in every restaurant ever it seems. Can't avoid it. That upsets me more, and they are probably the ones complaining about cameras.

See taking a pic of my beer I have zero qualms with.
Need to figure out what's going on in my brain

Well, I'm not quite there, but close. Dude taking a pic of his plate is likely having a good time. Why should that bother me?

I think in general it's not warranted, but I've done it a few to a hand full of times. Unless it's remarkable, and even then, no one gives a frick what I eat.

We went and ate at August a couple years ago. Food came out and I peered around like a nervous shop lifter, eased out me phone and snapped a real quick no flash pic. Felt like a tard. Then I look over and see a table that had just gotten their food and a dude drops down on a knee, whips out some big bird watching looking apparatus and start clicking away like a drunken paparazzi. Flash a blaring and zero fricks given. I immediately felt less like a tard.

"what a dork"

Years ago a couple women at the office would always laugh at a facebook friend of theirs. He was a professional photographer and had done a wedding for one of them.

Anyway, the guy would take pictures of everything he ate, would post the picture, and post "WIN" or "FAIL". They thought it was the goofiest/gayest thing they had ever seen. But they would go to his facebook page multiple times each day to see if he had eaten anything recently.

One day I was going to try to help a fellow male out and say something that would get them to cut him some slack. I realized something big at that very moment -
ONLY GUYS TAKE PICTURES OF FOOD AND DRINKS IN RESTAURANTS.

I have never seen a woman pull out her phone and take a picture of her meal. I saw a guy actually butt bump two different people at tables that were close to his as he was trying to get different angles for his pictures at a mexican restaurant one day.

For some reason I do find it annoying when people take pictures of their food. But, I have done it myself and will in the future.

I am willing to take pics in most restaurants in NOLA. It depends on the company I'm with, restaurant I'm in, and the kind of night.

I don't use a flash and don't make a scene taking the picture.

I feel it can someone cheapen the experience if you're at a fine dining establishment and the table full of assholes next to you are having a photoshoot with every dish that comes out.

I will still enjoy my meal but I think it's silly. "Act like you've been there before" kind of thing

I've never done it. I think it's sort of silly. I'd stop short of saying I'm "annoyed" by the sight of others doing it, though. I can't really say it bothers me.
