When I use a sauce, I don't use much, maybe a little dab every other bite. Just enough to compliment, barely.

I want to bitch slap someone anytime I see them ruining a good medium or medium rare steak with steak sauce, ketchup, or anything at all. My roommate uses A1 and smothers his steaks in it. Like why the frick did you just pay $12 for a decent cut of meat just to slather it in another flavor?

the majority of people might add sauce/ketchup, but the majority of people don't know how to eat steak

If you have to put ANYTHING on a steak, it's not worth eating.

Here's the deal. If you want to put some sauce on your steak well by God do it. If you don't, don't put shite on it. Myself, I like a well prepared steak just like it is. If I'm having the Waffle House sirloin I'm gonna sop it up with some A-1, hot sauce, egg yolk and ketchup. Scattered, covered, smothered. The world is your oyster partner. It's best not to worry about the opinion of others. Suggestions are great. But living your life the way other folks do is no way to live at all. We're not here long enough for that. Enjoy your steak, however you like it.

Well said. This same dude in the op eats ketchup with jumbalaya, boiled crawfish, fried chicken, and anything he's a ketchup freak. I like ketchup but not on the stuff mentioned above. On steak its alright though, not a lot but just enough to taste it.

Nothing.

Every other answer is wrong unless the steak sucks.

I don't mind an au poivre or marsala/mushroom sauce or even the bleu cheese butter but those are only for special occasions. Nothing like the taste of pure beef, especially grilled.

I like that from time to time, as well. Haven't made it in years, though.

There's no wrong answer. Eat it the way you like. Just don't poke it with a fork while you're cooking it and for gawd's sake, let it rest before you cut.

Salt and pepper, or a litle thing called steak butter which is seasoned in a minimalist manner. If I serve you a steak and you put ketchup on it a steak knife will be in your arse before the first bite is swallowed.

Me: Nothing
Lucy: Ketchup... and not only that but she always pours out a half cup of ketchup on her plate next to the steak or fish, uses 1/10th of it and the rest goes down the drain.

When I first admonished her about it she said "Ketchup is cheap." I realize now that it's because being 10 years younger than me she was raised in a McDonalds culture where ketchup was free.

Anybody like Marchand de Vin Sauce on their steak? I had this at Antoine's the one time I went there and I think I would have preferred nothing on my filet tips.

This was a bone-in ribeye. If you want to put ketchup on a overcooked sirloin I might could see it.

Rare and with nothing else, other than possibly drawn butter.
