I don't understand the hype behind Varsity in Atlanta. We tried them when we first moved here, and it's ok, but we didn't think it warranted the cult following it has. Wife and I felt like Weinershnitzel was better, and the guys working the cars in the drive up all looked like they used to work at Benny's car wash on Airline in Baton Rouge.

I figured it was an Atlanta nostalgia thing, but then I see folks on here (who's opinions I respect) loving it.

That being said, Wife loves their frosted orange, and our boys love any place with free paper hats.

I think it's a lot of it. It's been there since the 20's I think?

I have 2 opinions about the dogs:
1. Disgusting in an awesome sort of way
or
2. Awesome in a disgusting sort of way

1928.

I just have a friend from Atlanta that went to Georgia Tech and when I visited that was a place he always took me so yeah a bit of nostalgia but just good old steamed buns, boiled dogs and yellow mustard. Hard to beat.

The guy also worked at one of the original Chick Fil A's in Atlanta - for one of the Cathy sons while at Georgia Tech then got his MBA at Florida State and opened Chick Fil A's there. His dad and his mom both worked at The Varsity to put themselves through Georgia Tech.

I wish we still had a Lum's Hot Dogs in Baton Rouge. "Steamed in Beer"

[quoteI hate to admit it but I could eat a dozen chili dogs from Weinerschnitzel. [/quote]

Get one from Country Club Texaco on Highland at I-10. They make a bunch every morning, wrap in foil and put them under the lamp until they run out. Give them a couple hours and that cheese and chili just becomes one. Man they are good.

Hot dogs are too salty for me in my old age, but a toasted bun with Dijon mustard, Oscar Mayer all beef (boiled or microwaved), Hormel chili, grated sharp cheddar & diced red onions used to be the way I liked them. And then a quick pass under the broiler.

To the best of my recollection it was in the shopping center where BR College is now......I think there ws a Shopper's Fair there too.

Be the left side of parking lot if you turned in off of Florida Blvd....They were damn good....Hopefully Martini can confirm
