My instant pot arrives today, like many others'. I was thinking about adding an immersion blender to my tool supply. What does the board think about them? Are they worth it?

I use one for when I make bulletproof coffee and for making queso with sodium citrate to help emulsify as I add the cheese to the pot.

I use mine quite a bit, probably one of my more useful kitchen "gadgets"

I've got one i used twice. Been having it for 3 years. I don't really make anything that i need it for. Either that or i don't realize that i can use it for other stuff.

That and the electric carving knife, so far are the most useless kitchen items i own right now.

Yes. You should go online and look at some of the many uses for them.

I use mine for gravies a lot now because my kid all of a sudden freaks out at the site of bell peppers or onions or anything so I just blend it all together

Use mine all the time. Vinaigrettes, random sauces, whipped cream, soups, etc.

It's a shite load faster and easier than breaking out the blender.

I use mine mostly for soups and often enough I'm happy to have it. Traditional blenders are an option but I like not having to do batches. If you have a good blender like a vitamix or blendtec and you only want to make a few cups of whatever you're doing at a time, you can probably skip an immersion blender.

I use mine quite a bit and they only cost about twenty bucks. Snap end off and toss in dishwasher. Easier to clean then the blender.

I clean fish with my electric knives. It works well on slicing brisket if you really want it pretty but I normally cook my brisket to shred for tacos so doesn't really work for me. I know a lot of people use it to carve turkeys but I have a asian slicing knife for that.

My hand immersion blender is one of my favorite kitchen tools. I use it almost once a week. It's a great reasonably priced tool.

This post sold me. I'm a picky eater that as accommodated too much growing up. I'm much better now, but I Ann still weird snout certain things. There's certain vegetables that I like finely chopped, bell peppers being one of them. But for the price, it looks like it's well worth trying one.

Thanks again guys.

I use it for soups and gravies and it's great for red beans. Best of all, hardly any clean-up. Just rinse it off under hot water and you're done.

Handy tool to have in your arsenal. To quote Cpt. Woodrow F. Call when giving Newt his first pistol to take with him when they were slipping down into Mexico to steal some of Pedro Flores' horses, "It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it". My main use is for pulverizing chicken salad. I can make a Calvin's chicken salad clone with my stick blender...

You'll find you use it more than you expected.

I think that's me. I got one a few months ago but I suspect I'll use it a lot more when it cools off and it's soup season.

Absolutely you should. I use mine often enough and it is so damn convenient. They aren't that expensive and don't take a ton of space so why wouldn't you get one?

And as people have said, I use it for a lot of things I never thought about. I will be cooking something and wish the sauce were smoother and realize I can easily do that whereas before I would have never bothered.

I mainly use it to puree vegetable soups right in the cooking pot. It doesn't get the soup quite as perfect as a blender, but the quick cleanup makes it well worth it.

Watch your fingers. Lots of pics online of nasty injuries. And make sure it is immersed when you turn it on, or you will spray soup 360 degrees around your kitchen.

I've found that a kitchen-aid mixer with the paddle attachment will shred the shite out of some chicken.

This is another tool i never use. My wife uses it for baking. However, i didn't realize up until about a year or 2 ago, that you can make sausage with that thing.

If you like multipurpose kitchen tools, look at the Bamix immersion blenders. Interchangeable blades let you pulverize, whip, chop, mince, even grind spices. Not cheap but worth it.
