I wouldn't know because it's never been worth the time to think about it.

I can't control the dress of people in public places, so I'm not going to worry about it, until someone's boob plops on my plate or there's weenie poking out from under the tablecloth looking around for some action while I'm trying to eat. Not too crazy about underarm hair, either, but I see that in the grocery store all the time, so I've gotten used to it.

Seriously, it just shocks the dickens out of me that folks get all red faced and upset over what someone else wears to a restaurant. Do you judge what everyone wears to weddings and other social events? I've got bigger things to worry about than other people's dress like what I'm going to order from the menu.

Well, GG, my belief is that if I wanted to be around a bunch of yahoos, I'd go to the movies on Saturday night at 7:00 and see a lowest common denominator comedy!

To this day, I still don't know if these people are trying to be cooler than the next person, or if it's just stupidity.

Right. I could just as easily say, it shocks the dickens out of me that folks get all red faced and upset over the notion that there might be some rather simple to follow societal conventions about what it means to actually dine in a fine dining establishment. I've got bigger things to worry about than trying to flaunt such conventions, and find it easier just to try to go along to get along.

To me it's just a sign of respect to the establishment.

I like casual. The focus of a restaurant should be about the food, not the forced elegant atmosphere.

That's all well and dandy. Then stick to casual restaurants.

I do mostly, and when I do venture to fine dining, I am not against wearing a sports coat. I own several. I just do not like a forced dress code.

And if the proprietor of the restaurant asks for a dress code, and I decide to spend my time and money there because I value the product, the least I can do is dress accordingly to respect his view of how he wants his restaurant to be perceived. It's a small gesture to show a little respect. And like GG said, I aint going to Galatoires in July or August because I'm not wearing a coat down Bourbon street in 95 degree sun.

Sometimes I think a place is a tad overpriced. I don't like being forced to pay that price but if I make the choice go there, I pay it.

Since you cannot control what other folks wear wherever you go, that may be the only thing you can do for the rest of your life, Brockie, other than seeking psychiatric care for this issue.

GG, please understand that it does not affect my sleep, psyche or anything else.

It's just a little disappointing sometimes.

When my grandfather passed away, I always remember the one person that showed up in a golf shirt to the funeral. I dunno, maybe he got dragged along and had to go.

I'm not sure how much we really differ. I was just pointing out the silliness of the notion that anyone is really getting "red faced upset" about this either way, and I don't know why that assumption always seems to be drawn on the folks that are happy to or have no problem following the simple societal conventions, but not the other way around.

And, I wouldn't have given it a second thought. I would have been thinking that I was grateful the guy took the trouble to come at all.

Glad you're losing sleep, Brockie. Sorry, you're disappointed. I get disappointed over service and food, so I know how that feels.

Some cheery soul just asked me if I was in a loony bin, and I have no idea if he was serious. So yeah, this is a little bit true.

Since you are not going to worry about UNTIL this happens, what is your plan of action WHEN it happens? Especialy the weenie part...
