Anyone know of some decent fresh seafood markets in the Houston area? I see a couple down in Kemah, but I was hoping not to travel all the way down there just for seafood since I am more north Houston.

Central Market on Westheimer and Weslayan has a large seafood selection.. a large selection of everything, frankly.

Sorry, can't think of one outside of the bay area. If you end up going down there, go to Roses in Seabrook.

I lived in Houston for 6 years and the only seafood markets I knew of (besides questionable ones in the hood) were WF and CM. And the ones in Kemah.

Definitely a market for something like that

I agree. Being this close to the gulf you would think there would be more. I've been here for three years and still amazed how weak the seafood is here compared to La.

Thanks for the tips.

what are you looking for---go to Chinatown or maybe even Fiesta?

every fiesta I went to (and i went to most in Houston) had really poor quality fish. You could smell them from the produce section

Ranch 99 or Mas Club perhaps? Brush up on your Mandarin or Spanish first though.

Hillman's in Dickinson (right on the water) has fresh stuff everyday that they bring in. It's a hike from the city, but the quality is superb and you can literally see the fish go from their boat to your car.

Woodlands Seafood Market. On Rayford rd. off of I45. They have fresh everything. Also carry crawfish (as early as Nov) and can even source things like turtle meat. Definitely recommend.
